Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

See original thread.
Sticky post with all the planning threads.

First thing I need to do is decide how I'm going to store these plans. I don't have my SL binder yet but I'm thinking they will have their own tab there. I also think that I'm going to try (really, really hard) to have my craft supplies collected and in a ziploc bag marked "June" so I don't have to make any last minute shopping trips. Same for books; a little at a time, I'm going to buy what I need rather then plan to go to the library with my fingers crossed.

Okay, on to June.

From
The Big Book of Catholic Customs and Traditions
Dedicated to the Sacred Heart
Ordinary time-green
June 3 Charles Lwanga and Companions
June 3 Pope John XXIII
June 13 St. Anthony of Padua
June 21 First Day of Summer
June 24 St. John the Baptist
June 29 St. Peter and St. Paul
Third Sunday in June-Father's Day

Catholic Mosaicbooks
-The Twelve Apostles by Marianna Mayer (this is for Pentecost which is the last Sunday in May in 2009)
-The Princess and the Kiss by Jennie Bishop
-The Blackbirds Nest; a tale of St. Kevin of Ireland (June 3)
-Across a Dark and Wild Sea by Don Brown (St. Columcille, June 9)

These are just listed here to get us started. Please add any celebration ideas you have or any other feast days that are missing.

June has a number of awesome solemnities. Most of them are rotating dates since they are based on the date of Easter. Last year, they were in May -which is so rare!

This year, they are:
The Most Holy Trinity (Sunday June 7)
Corpus Christi (Sunday, June 14)
The Solemntiy of the Sacred Heart (Firday June 19)

You listed the other two solemnities: John the Baptist and Peter and Paul.

But I bet there are some great ideas listed in the archives here about the other three as well!

I was going to mention the same feasts, Maryan. When I do planning, I first look at the order of feasts: Sundays and Solemnities will always be celebrated, then Feasts are probable, Memorials and Optional Memorials depend on interest. We observe them all, but don't do the same level for each.

I had some sources listed in the original thread which include some liturgical calendars.

June 2009
1 - Justin (Memorial)
2 - Marcellinus and Peter (Optional Memorial)
3 - Charles Lwanga and Companions (Memorial)
5 - Boniface (Memorial)
6 - Norbert (Optional Memorial)
7 - Holy Trinity; Ordinary Time Week 10 (Solemnity)
9 - Ephrem (Optional Memorial)
11 - Corpus Christi (Traditional) (Solemnity); Barnabas (Memorial)
13 - Anthony of Padua (Memorial)
14 - Corpus Christi (United States) (Solemnity); Ordinary Time Week 11
19 - The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (Solemnity); Romuald (Optional Memorial)
20 - Immaculate Heart of Mary (Memorial)
21 - Ordinary Time Week 12
22 - Paulinus of Nola; John Fisher; Saint Thomas More (Optional Memorial)
24 - Nativity of John the Baptist (Solemnity)
27 - Cyril of Alexandra (Optional Memorial)
28 - Ordinary Time Week 13
29 - Peter and Paul (Solemnity)
30 - First Martyrs of the Church in Rome (Optional Memorial)

It's a big undertaking, but it's always been many of the moderators' hope to have links to previous discussions by month or liturgical seasons. It's a lot of searching, but if you post links and such we can perhaps come up with a sticky post by the end of the year!

And I know Faith Filled Days will be a good reference tool.

FAQ Liturgical Year touches on this question.

I'm finding often that confusion generally comes from the conversations that people refer to "Today is such and such feast day" or "What are you doing for the feast of ____?" These kind of statements are a blanket term for all the special liturgical days of the year.

But then particularly if you were to look at the Liturgical calendar, there are different rankings. In order of prominence, Solemnity (which include Sundays and holydays of obligation), Feast, Memorial, and Optional Memorial.

So in context with the church rankings, you could sort out a conversation this way:

St. Isidore the Farmer's feast day is celebrated on May 15. It is an optional memorial in the United States.

The difficult part is that "Feast" is an actual ranking, second to Solemnity, but that feast is used interchangeably for all the days.

It's been a little over a year since MommyD came up with the seasonal and monthly plans. I don't think we've been consistent, but they have been helpful.

Wow, what a lot of work you put in to this, Jennifer!

My daughter's patron saint is St. Margaret of Scotland; have a little typo on June 10...your link is right but it should say "moved to Nov 16 in OF" currently it says "nov 11."

Looking forward to celebrating these feast days and solemnities!

Oh, thanks! I appreciate it! I like things to be accurate.

This is not official church year stuff, but on Father's Day we also always like to honor St Joseph as well. It just seems fitting somehow, just as we also honor Mary on Mother's day.

I've been tweaking the above to fix my typos and such.

I've been thinking of the liturgical year plans. While the list above is long, it still needs to be "unpacked", with Collect prayers, readings of the day, symbols and patronages, and era lived, and reading and copywork material all incorporated with school plans. I also like to find artwork related to the special feast days.

Because of copyright reasons, the readings of the day can't be posted online, but only linked to USCCB. If I have time I'll put those links in, but they are also linked from Catholic Culture. Women for Faith and Family have the special readings related to the saint for that day.

Most of the links have all the information I need, except further reading at the age appropriate level, from either dedicated picture or chapter books, or biographies from various books.

The reality is I don't "celebrate" all feasts on the calendar. We try to pick the high feasts and namedays for the big celebrations, and then "observe" with little ways (praying to the saint, reading about the saint of the day) for the others, so I don't need all the detail for every day.

This is not official church year stuff, but on Father's Day we also always like to honor St Joseph as well. It just seems fitting somehow, just as we also honor Mary on Mother's day.

Oh, I like that, Theresa! I do think the secular holidays do fit into the domestic church celebrations, and the Church usually has certain votive Masses or special blessings for these days.

I added some links to Treasure Chest Fun and Fact for some of the feast days. I also put them in the May liturgical thread.

Wow!! What a comprehensive list! I was just coming to share the link I found for the tie-dye shirts, and you already have it! I wish I had time to do it...but we're moving in 2.5 weeks and I think I'd be nuts to try tie-dye. ;)

Thank you. I keep trying to add as I see or find them to keep the list updated.

I have to admit I've never done tie dye. I like the idea of doing the craft, but I have nightmares thinking of anyone in my family wearing them. Charlotte (Waltzing Matilda) and Colleen's idea is a bit more to my taste.
