I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not!!
The other night my husband noticed the book I'm reading: "Chosen and Cherished" by Kimberly Hahn. So I briefly explained what it's about. Then he asked "what about me?" He wants to know if there are any books out there written for husbands and fathers like this one? I know there are many for the vocation of wife and mothers but I was at a loss of what to recommend to him.
He doesn't have a whole bunch of time to read....and many times falls asleep when he picks up a book but I know that he would read something for his vocation. We tried "Theology of the Body" some time ago but that's too deep for him to process on the small amount of time he has to dedicate to reading.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Something like this?
I haven't read it, just heard about it. Some people like him, some don't. Just a starting place.
God Bless,

I noticed after I posted that the book you're reading is specifically about marriage. The one I referenced is more about fatherhood, but marriage is a part of it.

Someone gave my husband a copy of Christian Fatherhood, but it didn't engage him. It has been highly recommended, though.
I think the books by John Eldredge are great. Wild At Heart is for the men, Captivating for the women, and I think there are a few for both men and women. Waking the Dead is the one that comes to mind, and it was great. Eldredge is not Catholic, so an occasional theological thing comes up - but his premise is solid and surprisingly consistent with our Catholic understanding of the dignity and beauty of the human person.

Forgot to mention that when my husband read Wild at Heart several years ago, and I asked him if he enjoyed it, he just said I had to read it to understand. It was so "right on," he said, that he couldn't even articulate how much it made sense to him and how much it meant to him.

Steve Woods has written Christian Fatherhood. For a while dh subscribed to their Covenant Keepers mag, you can find them here. Dh proudly wear's a shirt from them about Fatherhood, unfortunately the postage meant we haven't got their stuff for a while.

Thank you for these suggestions! I had forgotten about John Eldridge. I read Captivating years ago and loved it. I'll have to try and get Wild at Heart. And look into the other suggestions too. We thank you!

I know this is an old topic, but was wondering if there were any updated reviews for these books and sites?

My dh loved the book Legacy by Steve Wood. He pulls it out once in a while when he needs a refresh on it.

My husband really likes Father Longenecker's *Listen My Son: Benedict for Fathers*.
It is in a daily reading format that will let you read it three times in a year (my dh usually reads it weekly when he goes to Adoration). I think that the format is very "dad" friendly since they are not inclined to reading "parenting books" ime.

Another nice one is Capture Her Heart by Lysa TerKeurst. It is a good little book for marriage enrichment, and an easy read that can just be picked up quickly as time permits. I believe there is a version for wives Capture His Heart.
We've also read the two books Fore Men Only and For Women Only both I believ by Shaunti Feldhahn. Both good to help see the whys and wherefores of the opposite sex, written from a Chrisitan viewpoint, though not offensive to our Catholic teachings from what i can remeber. Of course they cannot fully give a viewpoint on the individual spouse you are married to, but do have some great ideas and insights into the general things that make us each tick.

Yes, of course, Suzanne, you are recommending the same ones I was going to.! Jim Stenson books have made a great impact on my husband (and me, too!).
Not directed at husbands, but dh and I have found these books on marriage, like Sheen, Cormac Burke, Javier Abad and E. Fenoy have been really helpful for our marriage so that we can be on the same page.
Although Protestant, my spiritual director and other priests have recommended For Better or Best by Garry Smalley and John Trent. There is the book for wives, "If Only He Knew", also highly recommended.
Another book by the same authors made a huge impression on my husband, The Blessing. Very helpful for him as a husband and father.
Some books on my shelf for Fathers and Husbands by Catholic authors, some in print, some out:
The Head of the Family by Clayton C. Barbeau, originally 1961. Sophia reprinted, but it seems to not be on their site.
These three are lots of stories to illustrate:
Father of the Family by Eugene S. Geissler, Fides Publishers, 1957.
The Man for Her by Leo Kinsella, Valiant Publications, 1957.
The Father by Rev. Erminio Crippa, S.C.J., Daughters of St. Paul, 1957
To You Dad by Stanley Kenney and James Cruise, Daughters of St. Paul, 1962.

A few more:
Not Your Average Joe
Books by Meg Meeker are very helpful to be a good father.

I've heard this book mentioned a couple times in the past couple of months:

I would love to hear a review if anyone has this book. I was considering it for my 17 year old ds's summer reading stack.
Steve Wood's Legacy does cover quite a bit on marriage, it is one of my favorite family books and my dh enjoyed it.

My husband loved the books by Jim Stenson. He has bought multiple copies and hands them out to friends and relatives. They are interesting to read and very practical in their suggestions.

I haven't heard about "Be a Man!" but it looks great!
A few months ago Raymond Arroyo had the author of Ultimate Man's Survival Guide on "The World Over". It sounded appealing to us, praising and cultivating "manliness" in today's society.

Our pastor has quoted from This Tremendous Lover by Fr. Eugene Boylan in our parish bulletin a few times. After reading this quote (scroll to the second page) in last Sunday's bulletin, I think that this would be a good book for both husbands and wives to read.

Christine~I have loved those excerpts in the bulletin so much, and it's made me add that book to my Wish List! I think it'd make a great year-long-SLOW book to read...very meaty.
