Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Rebecca (7smallones) and I have taken on the task of posting the Monthly Artist Study. Thanks for the list.

Please would you give me some ideas on how you do your artist study. I am just planning things - I was going to select some prints for observation and discussion, read a book on the artist, maybe watch a dvd on the life of the artist (Mike Venezia?), do a project from Discovering Great Artists.

I would love to hear how you do your art study.

Another question - do you print out the pictures in the threads and then laminate them? I am hoping to go the National Gallery in DC once a month - and see works relating to the artist we are studying - but the bigger prints are quite pricey there.

Thanks!

Marilyn, I've followed the advice of Penny Gardner for a few years now and it has been very successful for us.
M - View picture, turn over, narrate orally
T - View picture, turn over, sketch in black and white
W - View picture, turn over, sketch in color
R - View picture, turn over, creative writing involving the picture
F - Free choice, (usually a second color sketch)

It is quite easy to find most of the artists in the library, in fact some libraries have prints you can check out, especially in college towns. We've cut up calendars before, I always use the picture of the week as the background on the computer, we've even found copies of a picture in a magazine ( a Renoir) but I've never felt the need to purchase prints before so I cannot really help you there.

Thank you so much - this is really helpful. Also the Penny Gardner website is great.

Thank you Mary and Rebecca!

Just wondering, Mary, if this thread could become a sticky (is that what it's called, with the thumbtack icon?) so that it stays at the top of the Cultivating Color and Cacophony board? It would make it so much easier to refer back to.

Hi Tami,
It is a sticky and does stay at the top of the Color and Cacophony board. I'm glad you asked about that though, because I don't think we ever publicly said that. We do hope that people will remember it is there and use it when needed.

Thank you... this is a great resource, and just in time as we swing back into our artists studies again

This is really GREAT! Just one thing...the link for August is broken. I think you just left off some of the tag.

This is an incredible resource. I have never given art study that much attention. Just sort of here and there. But with a resource like this I really have no excuse. Somehow I think we are going to enjoy it a lot more this year. We already have an artist for this month and next, but do plan to join you all in November.

Just had to say thanks.
