Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I forgot the original, but luckily, I have others in store: Where Would I Be In An Evergreen Tree?

The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton

Had to include this one! I think this is the first book I think of when asked "What is your favorite picture book?"

Oh, Jenn! YES!    This is my favorite picture book, too....I think because it is the one I have the longest memory of having loved. (sound like a thread starter: what is YOUR ultimate favorite picture book? )

if any of you moms have managed to miss this or any other Burton books....have a VLB picture book fest!

Mary, you're a hoot!

have you been watching over my shoulder, mary??

then you have probably seen me scouting my picture books several times a day, too.

and you know what has come from this? a stack of picture books I need to read to my almost nine year old quick, so he can fall in love with the few I have missed for him! a nice blessing! a good fruit!

and now...what letter were we on again???

How many of those last ones didn't count????     But I think we are caught up and it is accurate now as The Empty Pot follows correctly.

An Egg is Quiet definitely has been used. Tony's Bread almost posted twice. Strega Nona has been posted twice and so has Katy and the Big Snow (Chari - you and I have the same taste in PBs ).   Did you all see the spread sheet Jenn did a couple pages back - it lists all the books so far (or up through that page).

Three Names. In the course of looking for a "T," I found four more really good "B" candidates.

Can anyone help?

Only eleven more posts and I hit 5000 posts...see what you have done for my numbers, Mary...turned me into a lurking monster.

Mary, we have more than the same tastes in PBs    ....besides the fact that we could SOOOO pass for sisters.

Thank you, Mary...I saw the link, but I neevr looked at the list. Using my short term memory is obviously not good enough here.

I ahve been wondering.....if we should rename the thread something more clever:

(NOT clever enough, but: "here is a really long list of great picture books!")

I will go clean up the lovely mess left for me in the garage by the dogs and come back and see what you all have come up with.

Well, technically no...but we'll let it slide as I don't think there are many Z books at all.

This is a post I've been trying to write for the last hour - but kept getting distracted with the game pace. So anyway...

Looks like it would be a good addition to the squirrel picture book thread. Speaking of which I found another one I need to go add...off on the squirrel trail...

Nine Days to Christmas, by Marie Hall Ets, Caldecott

Jenn, for mentioning it. I just returned this to the library. It is a book I just rediscovered and remember fondly from childhood. I vaguely remembered a book about a pinata and a girl being sad about cracking it open. I did a search - thought the cover looked familiar and got it - YES, it was the book. I hadn't remembered that it was about Los Posadas, probably because as a kid I had no sense of what los posadas were. So just added it to my Advent books. I vividly remember now the part about the star pinata becoming a "real" star. Reading it just totally threw me back 40 years, because it is one I hadn't read at all since that time.

We've had a few threads attempting to do that. I'll see if I can search them up. But mostly we have a hard time and have to make it 5 or 10 favorite ones... And VLB's The Little House is definitely always in my top 10 of all time.
