What picture book has touched your heart and soul and speaks mainly to you, the mother, more so than the child in your lap whenever you read it?
I would really like to know.

Neat question!
I get choked up every time I read The Little Rose of Sharon by Nan Gurley to the kids and The King by Beth Moore really sheds a new light on God's love for us, even and especially when we "misbehave". I'm always touched by the fact that He not only forgives us but also helps us to clean up our mess, too.

Just in Case You Ever Wonder and when I'm pregnant, Angel in the Waters...cry all the time when I'm reading to the kids though, they're totally used to it and don't even comment any more...good training for when they have hormonal wives  , or women in their confessional

The Princess and the Kiss - I think it speaks to absolutely everybody but as a mother, it does especially if you have lived the fulfillment of what it so beautifully portrays and then you hope to capture & convey that same love and beauty of this virtue through this book for your own children.

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein I recieved this as a child for first communion. I have never been able to read it without crying even as a child. Very powerful book.

I've been thinking and looking through my bookcase and there are two that make my voice wobble and my eyes moisten, every single time:
The Clown of God - my heart feels initially for the little orphan boy and then at his death, which touches my heart deeply without some of the concerns that some more sensitive children may have with the scene.
The Legend of the Poinsettia - I feel once again as a mother for the pain and sorrow of Lucinda, trying so hard to complete her mother's special blanket and then I really choke at the words, "I can't" Lucinda told her. "I don't have a gift for the Baby Jesus." The children just LOVE that scene (just to watch mum more than anything else.)

Last night we read for the first time, The Acrobat and the Angel and God Bless the Gargoyles, and I tell you, did they both choke me up. I should have read them ahead of time to be prepared for the emotion they caused.
