Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

* We have kept the ball in the air for 9 days straight!

* We have the most replies (50) to a recent post in Tea and Conversation since Blogging which has 58

* We have 610 views which is a bronze metal winner for recent T&C posts with Outdoor Mary Statue with 999 on Feb 17 the current silver medalist and Smartphone with 2297 on Feb 7 being the winner winner chicken dinner Gold medalist!

And we've got our work cut out us! Check out these numbers:

Quote:
Most views: "Who's Expecting?" with 89,174 views. ("Please Read Before Posting" has 468,142 views, but is not a true representative of a forum thread,)

Most posts: WPTTL's "Special Intention" thread with 804 posts. 2nd place goes to "Who's Expecting?" with 580.

Tim and Janette will tell us the same stats for Tea and Conversation. I wonder which are the record holders in this forum? Whatever they are, they need to be looking over their shoulder. We're closing in

Everywhere I go online and IRL, I see frustration about a lack of engagement. People read online but don't comment or like. People enroll their kids in Little League but don't volunteer to help. Etc.

So I've been thinking about this and I hope I'll write more about it but for now I wanted to DO something about it.

What if we made engagement easy and fun? What if we made it so easy and fun that most people could be enticed, cajoled, emboldened to engage? And what if the fun came from a friendly competition?

Have you ever played that game with a balloon or beach ball where a group of people try to keep the ball in the air? It starts off that you might keep it up 5 times before it drops. But then everyone really focuses and you keep it up for 10 times. Well now you want to beat that record and it gets crazy because everyone flips out with excitement when you reach 98...99...100!

So let's see if we can keep this post up in the cyber air for as long as we can! Here's the rules as I'm making them up right now

We bump this topic at least once a day to keep it active. If we drop the ball, we start again.

We try to bump this more times than any other topic has been bumped. Can someone get that number for us?

We bump it with something funny, trivial, encouraging, like the banter of the ball in the air game? Teasing is allowed too :)

Perhaps we can have a game within the game such as: The most funny post. The most trivial post. The most encouraging post. The best tease. The member who posts original content the most. The member who comments the most. The member we haven't heard from in the longest amount of time. The member who recruited the most members to participate. OMG, we can give ourselves awards for all sorts of things!!!

Come on, friends! Step away from the difficulties and isolation of life and join in the fun!

On your mark...get set...go!

So you know those "which superhero are you?" quizzes that get posted around facebook... yeah the kids have been having fun with those.. and I was hearing lots of "I'm so-n-so, I beat you up.." or boss you or whatever.. so I just added "I'm mom, get busy" apparently from their reaction mom is the greatest super hero

I just read somewhere that a child needs to read a word at least 40 times before it becomes automatic. That has helped me become more patient as I try to get my struggling reader to remember things.

This is me going anywhere that requires more than jeans and a t-shirt!

ETA: I might win "least number of changes in a day"--I've had waaayyyy too many pajama days lately.

Okay, so I ended up wearing a black Maxi dress with an orange cardigan and my favorite leopard flats. It was a wonderful evening but baby fell asleep in the car on our way home and now won't go back to sleep. It's going to be a really long night!!!!!

Why thank you Dh and I celebrated our birthdays earlier this month, we're only 2 days apart and a week and less before St Valentine's day which is why we never celebrate Valentine's Day.

Just wanted to share that it looks like finally my 9 and & years olds are confident readers Anyone else in this situation of a final breakthrough in any area?

This is encouraging!

I laughed about Mimi changing six times! Your final choice sounded cute!

My birthday is almost in February. But end of January instead.

A poster I wish still shared is Lisbet, I check her blog regularly, and just wish she had the time to still share her peaceful presence and wisdom in what she has learned. I definitely understand that she's busy. Just miss her input.

Nancy, I have been trying to do without soda (my choice was Diet Rite) and I miss the bubbles.

Erin, it feels like we are on the brink of a breakthrough with ds8 and his reading, but just when I think he's improving he takes a few steps backwards.

Spanish day today at a friend's house and we are making wedding cookies - Yum!

Lara, try some carbonated water with a bit of fruit juice concentrate added for flavor.. you can get the bubbles without all the other stuff in soda and control the sugar by how much you add of the juice.

So the big topic of discussion around here is the topic of Lenten Sacrifices. For Lent we do a family rosary Sunday through Thursday and then Stations of the Cross Fridays and as a sacrifice go to Saturday night vigil Mass. We also give up everything except water as drinks (not counting milk in our cereals)

Oldest daughter is babysitting and mother's helping all Lent without being paid. She has told her clients that they should donate the money to charity or just put it in the basket on Sunday.

What kinds of things do you add or subtract for Lent? Does anyone else do something as a family or is it pretty much up to each person?

OK, I'll play!

Spent all day driving and now it feels so great to just stretch out on my bed!

Mimi, this year I just insisted that we all do the same thing...last year everyone did something different and it was altogether too crazy to 1)remember what they were supposed to be doing and 2) fix dinner when everyone had given up a different food item    So, we are intensifying our prayer life as a family with a few more daily prayers, probably giving up sweets, and I am giving up coffee (secretly, because they won't let me give it up if they find out, )

Me drinking coffee:
Me having given up coffee:

I'm sitting here thinking "I wonder what would qualify as the most trivial post". Only cuz that one maybe I'd have a chance at!

So exciting day.. I got new fabric. I got two pieces (a dark brown calico and a red with large print calico) to make myself some historical period skirts for black powder rendezvous. A lovely pale lavender on cream piece for a top for my daughter for the same thing and the last piece of fleece that she was waiting for to make a tied blanket with.
