I've run into EBMs - Espresso Book Machines- before, but they are mostly in the NE. If you don't know, these are machines that print up google books on demand in paperback.
Anyway, I was looking at buying Number stories from long ago, and ended up on the Northshire Bookstore. I'm not sure if its a fluke, and I haven't checked out, but it appears that USPS shipping is free! UPS is about $5-7 but with my full address in USPS was $0.
So, hopefully that can help someone. Even if shipping is not free, I like that we have this option. I just wish there was an EBM in my neighborhood. :)

I haven't seen one of these print on demand Espresso Machines before!
But...since we were talking about printing books in the public domain, I thought I'd link this thread: Anyone Else Print Google Books?
I still print books on my printer and spiral bind them even though we now have 2 e-readers! Anyway...just wanted to throw that option out there. The home printer can do a great job printing these books!
By the way, Number Stories of Long Ago looks really interesting!! Thanks for mentioning it!

I always go for print versions of books I think worthy of rereading even tho we have multiple laptops and iPads. As much as I love technology when it works for me, it's a fickle thing. A computer glitch, erasings, site down, company out of business or no longer supporting that program/device...
So to me, if it's worth keeping, it's worth keeping in hard copy.

I am linking to a topic I started a while ago about Espresso Machines!
In that post Christine found a link that showed where the machines were located!
I am happy to say that there is one closer to me, but I never did get anything printed when I was asking. However, now I am intrigued again and I know my way better around NC States Campus.

I haven't in person, either- just online. But I never really considered the shipping option.

Do you think that the cost of printing at home compares well to buying a printed book like this? Say I could get a book for $8-11. I have the Epson Workforce 845 like you. We don't yet have a laser, and I don't have a proclick or similar binding system. We print a lot, including 15 prayer books weekly for a prayer group, but I do have to replace our black every few months. If I started printing books, I feel that would be much more often. But I don't know. I'll look back at that thread. :)
You know, I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it recommended!! It was in my google play library, but I also specifically saw it or thought of it just the other day. I hate it when that happens! But when searching and trying to remember, I saw it listed in the PNEU programmes on Ambleside, Programme 92 Form III, 93 Form IV, and 94 Form II, under Arithmetic as "Important: to be read in leisure time: Number Stories of Long Ago, by D.E. Smith" So it looks like they were trying to make sure students in each form read it at some point. And since it is ancient math history/stories, there's not much that can change. :)
