Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

From last year.

Our family motto for this year is "Go Big or Go Home!" Now ladies, I know this may not sound very gentle but it has a big heart! My men (I'm the only female living under this roof) were adamant and I believe they are right. Discussing it we looked for something to describe...giving every day your best effort and looking to achieve goals, ultimately heaven. A priest recently shared the metaphor of filling our glasses spiritually and that there are different sized glasses...which lead to what sized glass we feel capable and blessed to have as a family...which lead to a big glass...which lead to a sports saying .

And you?

Love,

We haven't decided on our word/phrase yet for the year. I'll be back!

Not sure but KINDNESS has been a word that could be embraced much more frequently in our home.

By default(I had a wooden word for my shelf) I put up "love" for this year. I started it with Advent so that next year we can use "faith" during the year of faith. I've started looking for my wooden word/letters for "faith" already. I thought sure I'd find them during Christmas and no luck . I might need to go find those older threads and see about individual letters I can get.

I'm thinking Organize. Not just physically get organized but spiritually. I'm always on the ball when it comes to activities, etc, but otherwise, I'm a mess. And so is my family. Or Habits. We all need to work on our habits. Getting rid of bad ones and cultivating good ones. And, it starts with me. And, dh, but he's in Afghanistan so we'll give him a chance to reintegrate before making him work on himself.

To keep myself more positive and stop the negative self talk it's -- I CAN

I can do ALL things through Christ who strenghthens me. ~~Phil 4:13   I get easily overwhelmed and it covers everything.

It sure helps to repeat the phrase while on the treadmill.

Jodie, I saw your post back in November...you are WAY on top of this .

Michaela, you are funny!

Jen, I was needing to find a quote to go with our motto and Don Bosco is perfect. Here's one so far:

Quote:
"Remember, God does not pay us for results, but for effort."- Don Bosco

Thanks!

Love,

Everyday I recently wrote a 'rule of six'; six ways to nurture my loved ones and nurture me. So Everyday sums up my rule of six neatly in my head.

Everyday I strive to; Pray, Play, Read and Think, Engage in Conversations, Enjoy God's Creation and Exercise.

I was going to say SURVIVE ~ since we've all been in survival mode following dear mil's stroke. But, THRIVE describes the mental attitude we are striving for so much better! 2012 will indeed be a year when we STRIVE to THRIVE as a family ~ in our faith, in our relationships with God and with one another, in ALL that we think and say and do!

Diligence and Delight

The two words are related to each other and I want to keep that in mind this year!

Linger!That's my personal one.

For our family I want to try to work on "The Family that prays together, stays together". By focusing on the Feast days through the year and just getting lots better at praying as a family and individually (myself). I've gotten very lazy in prayer the past few months & I want to fix that!

I am having the hardest time choosing a word/theme for this year!!
I have tried and tried but can't seem to come up with a word that encompasses the idea of "I need to just get off my lazy rear and get more done and quit being such a slacker!" LOL!
Ugh! I have become such a slug lately! I feel like I need my own personal grouchy football coach to yell at me "Move it, move it, move it!!!" Maybe that would get me going.
Come to think of it, Angie, your "Go big or go home" is pretty close. Maybe I should just steal that one.
See how lazy I am? Can't even be bothered to think up my own motto! LOL!

I'm having a hard time, too.

I feel as though I retreat and too often seek to escape life when I feel overwhelmed.

Also, when we had our family meeting, we came up with our rules and resolutions as a family, most of which are related to tidiness and cleanliness. Tidy isn't really an inspiring word, though.

Our first family rule was "Obey right away with a happy heart." So, obey would be appropriate but not really addressing some other areas I'd like to.

So, in looking through past threads, I think I will steal Michelle's from two years ago

MicheleQ wrote:
For Lent the last two years my "word" has been "Now" (from 2 Cor. 6:2 "Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.") and I continue to use it as my 'motto' of sorts daily. More in the mind of being present to life now. Drinking in the sweetness of the moment (or chaos as the case may be ) of my family, my circumstances, my life. Taking the bad with the good and just being. But also savoring --I didn't do enough of that when I was a much younger mom. Mind you there are plenty of things I need to improve on and I am trying (I am sitting at the Y right now typing this --I am done my workout but hubby does a much longer one so I wait for him) but just being here now is my main focus.

I think that "being here now" would, for me, help our other goals fall into place.

In sports terms that would be "Stay with the Play".

I feel as if I already posted this somewhere, but since you asked:

Listen

Listen to God's still, small voice. Listen to my children's hearts. Listen to my own inner yearnings. Listen to my husband's love.

That's it. Listen.

These are all so beautiful. Yes, even the sports ones.

For the first year in a long time, nothing is coming to me. I have a feeling in my heart about this coming year, but no words to describe it.

It's kind of a quiet, expectant, hopeful (but not too much ), still, clean, new, yearning, lonely feeling.

20 points to whoever can help me come up with a word for that.
