Enchanted Learning has quite a few activities, including pages of addition and subtraction problem Color by Number sheets. There are some good Irish Map sheets.
There are also a few Rainbow crafts which I was thinking would actually be good today, to reinforce yesterday's first reading about God's covenant with Noah.
And a very simple decoration idea is to take 3 green hearts, glue them together to make a shamrock and write Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the 3 sections (1 each). This can be used as a greeting card too, for grandparents or elderly friends at morning Mass.

I had trouble opening the page because I am no longer a member ... I'll have to renew, because there's always good stuff at this site.
We always visit my 92 yo, 100% "Scotch-Irish" grandmother on St. Patrick's Day. We bring Irish tea, something yummy to eat, and something the boys have made for her. Gwen, I like the Trinity shamrocks idea!
I found a couple of nice St. Patrick Day crafts at Martha Stewart's website ~ a St. Patrick's Pin and Shamrock Boutennieres.

Today I received a book I mentioned in this thread called St. Patrick in Stained Glass. Very nice, little book, with photographs of stained glass windows dating from late 1800s to 1975, concentrating on the Victorian and Arts and Crafts Movements depicting St. Patrick. Very lovely...ds thinks it's "his" book because of the lovely pictures. The text is more adult, telling the story of St. Patrick, but the pictures make it a page turner!
Alice had posted a link to her blog on another thread and I noticed her little preparing for St. Patrick's Day with Sculpey -- Just beautiful!

Excuse the excessive posting, but I thought I'd put some of the St. Patrick's ideas in one place! I was going through my shelves and the archives....
St. Patrick and Irish Saints book recommendations
St. Patrick's Day 2005!
Music: In honor of St. Patrick from the thread Schola Cantorum Recordings. Kelly might have bought this...I'll have to wait until next year.
Some other books I have around:
Shamrocks, Harps, and Shillelaghs: The Story of the St. Patrick's Day Symbols by Edna Barth. I have an older version, looks like this one has new illustrations.
St. Patrick's Day in the Morning by Eve Bunting illus. by Jan Brett.
And of course Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland. I do need to get my own copy!

Some more thoughts on St. Patrick's Day:
Our bishop in the Diocese of Arlington has issued a dispensation for abstinence from meat on St. Patrick's Day. I find it wonderful that he worded it that we could choose to not abstain "as long as they choose another day during the week of March 13-18 to abstain."
The Prepared Pantry had a lovely St. Patrick's Day Dinner menu...not all very Irish, but abstinence friendly. The Leprechaun Pie looks yummy!
Martha Stewart of course has some lovely ideas: St. Patrick's Day Cupcakes with the lovely clover on the top;Clover Cookies; Irish Soda Bread and some crafts: Shamrock Boutonniere and Clover Pins. I like the simple use of the clover, which is the Christian symbol, too. Easily converts into a catechism lesson!
St. Patrick's Day Emerald Isle Feast. This site Irish Culture and Customs is just a goldmine.
The usual Catholic resources have some great ideas: Catholic Culture for St. Patrick and Women for Faith and Family and Domestic Church.

Picture book - Saint Patrick and the Peddler is the retelling of an old Irish folktale about a poor peddler who is visited by St. Patrick in a series of dreams trying to get him to go on a quest of sorts. The pictures really evoke a feeling of being in the Irish countryside.
Music- Faith of Our Fathers & Faith of Our Fathers II aren't specifically related to St. Patrick's day but are a great source of traditonal Irish religious music. Volume one does include the hymn - Hail, Glorious Saint Patrick.

I don't know that one Jenn, but the illustrations look beautiful! I'll have to see if my library has a copy ...
Another book by Joyce Denham that we do have (it's perched on our table this week), is A Child's Book of Celtic Prayers. It was a gift to my oldest when he made First Holy Communion.

I just got The Book of Kells stained glass coloring book (Dover) and it is beautifully done. Though not about St Patrick, it is Irish.

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone
I'll second this endorsement, it's a beautiful picture, we're off to read Tomie De Paola's book followed by colouring this page, we may even do the notebook idea.

We went to Mass! What a change for me from St. Pat's day 10 years ago....
We read Tomie de Paola and this book about the Trinity at a tea party and then went and bought an apple tree to plant in the yard. Planting a tree is, of course, the perfect small project for a woman 8 months pregnant. Too bad we won't live here long enough to see it grow, but it will fruit this year.
Happy St. Pat's!

Last year we corned our own beef. It was super simple--sounds a lot more complicated than it is, but it tasted SO much better. I used the recipe from America's Test Kitchen.
Anyway, doing that could make a nice little science/history rabbit trail about curing meat since its something we read about a lot in older books and stories but we rarely do in our homes anymore.
Ds was only 2 when I did it; so, it wasn't really an educational opportunity for us, but my elderly neighbor said it was the best meal he'd ever had!

Lindsay,
When we were in Austria, and you couldn't get Corned Beef, we did our own too ... it's actually quite easy and works best with a beef brisket ... but that, combined with the smell of cabbage and me in early pregnancy and wow! But the memory of the dinner are fantastic and the kids thought it was so cool....

Bumping this old thread to add a few more book ideas. These would be for older readers - middle school - high school age.
Celtic Heritage Saints by Marian Keaney - this book is recommended on Alicia van Hecke's Reading Your Way Through History list. St. Patrick's story is told in a factual way and I like that it includes some of St. Patrick's own words and also shows how St. Patrick's breastplate originates. Well written and probably good for late elementary readers through middle school.
The Easter Book of Legends and Stories by Alice Isabel Hazeltine - I know, the title makes it an unlikely candidate for a story of St. Patrick, yet within this compilation is a lovely narrative - St. Patrick at Tara, written in story form and "adapted from early sources". The story is richly woven together and beautifully presented. The reading level seems like it is most appropriate for middle school on up, but I think any child would appreciate this as a read aloud. It's a wonderful retelling of the St. Patrick's encounter at Tara over the Paschal fire for the Vigil of Easter. (** see Lent and Easter chapter books for a review of The Easter Book of Legends and Stories **)
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
