Even thought fall doesn't seem to want to arrive here in North LA, I would like to get some titles of good fall picture books to read to my 3yo ds.
Any recommendations/

Since I lived in Shreveport a good many years, I know exactly what you're talking about. Most of the leaves on the trees turn brown and fall off, or they are pine trees and stay green. We had one maple tree on our street that we would watch every year and oooh and aah and talk about the colors. But it was a single solitary tree. 
My library has most of them! Here's my first try at reserving books. Gotta get into the habit.  I'm thrilled that they have the Lois Lenski -- ds and I love her books!
Since my little guy is only slightly younger, I'll add what we're enjoying. Tasha Tudor books are a must...

Looking in my library catalog under the subject "Autumn" there are a few Jim Arnosky books. Any specific recommendations for his books for fall/autumn theme?

Here are my favorites:
Flower Fairies of the Autumn Poems and lovely illustrations.
Birches by Robert Frost will inspire you to climb trees and get to know them.
Autumn Across America by Seymour Simon, with great photos.
Every Autumn Comes the Bear Follow the bear as he searches for a winter den.
When the Frost is on the Punkin' James Whitcomb Riley's poem beautifully illustrated.
The last is available online as a free audio clip at Magic Word.
I have other ideas and suggestions for reading and activities on my autumn page, too. Happy Fall, All!

Oh, we've enjoyed the regular Flower Fairies book - didn't know there was a fall version. We'll have to check that out. I loved the cover with the little acorn cup hats. I love acorns. Denver doesn't have a lot of oaks so they are harder to find around here and the squirrels are worthy adversaries in the battle to obtain them.
Another fun fall book is Look What I Did With a Leaf. After reading, collect leaves and make your own collage pictures. Martha Stewart KIDS magazine had a great article on this which I think was in the 2003 fall issue - but unfortunately it isn't archived on-line. Here is a website of a teacher who did a similar leaf collage project (checkout the samples).
Martha does have this leaf project that would be fun. Leaf masks

Hello to all of you.
I actually came upon this site while searching for instructions for a sonic costume. After reviewing some of the topics I found the quote from WJFR saying that she still had the sonic costume she had made. I know this isn't the proper place to ask and I apologize; however, if WJRF reads this and still has the instuctions for the sonic costume I would forever be in her debt! If not, cheers and this is a great idea for a site. My son's father and I have had discussions re home schooling.

On a recent visit to my parent's house I found this charming book (which I didn't remember - I think it was my sister's book) - Mousekin's Golden House. Theresa has on several occasions mentioned these Mousekin books and I'm glad I ran across it as a reminder to check them out. The only one I had remembered was the Christmas one.
Anyway, Mousekin's Golden House is similar to Pumpkin Jack in that it is about the process of decay of a pumpkin. Really cute! And apparently it is a much sought after OOP book - I felt like I found quite a treasure.

Just wanted to mention our absolute favorite fall read-aloud: Moomintrolls in November. If you have never met the Moomins, you might want to get The Finn Family Moomintroll to start. These Finnish books have been translated into many languages, and are simply fun.
It's also a great time of year (since the acorns are falling!!) to try the Gray Squirrel Project. If you live in an acorn-free area, try using nuts bought at a local store... .
I love Autumn; one can begin so many projects...hand-feeding birds, cold weather crops (peas!!! more fresh peas!!), composting, collecting...

We've been totally table bound lately, so we did the squirrel project today, and it was a breath of fresh air. We all had so much fun, and our attitudes are much improved. Thank you for the suggestion!
