Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted this in the Blowing the Dust Off History section under the medieval thread, but I thought it was such a wonderful story about how books were made and illustrated 'way back then', that I thought I'd post here as well. It is basically a story about a young girl who finishes a manuscript for her aging father. It is set in the early 1400's in Paris and throughout the story you meet characters such as the libraire (bookseller), the parchment maker, and the apothecary. The descriptions of how Marguerite gathers the materials and then mixes them to make the colors are wonderful. Beautiful pictures!!

This site has a better description of the story. You can purchase it cheaper elsewhere.

This was the BEST picture book we found last year when we spent the entire year on the Middle Ages. I loved it!

We just read this book today - it was superb! It was well worth the wait; I had requested it from our library about 3 months ago and was placed way down on the long list of requesters.
