What's everyone planning (if anything) for St. Patrick's day? I need a few ideas for the little ones ... If there's another thread of this, please let me know. I couldn't find it.

We simply wear as much green clothes as we can!!
(Since we are from WI originally, we also look like we are about to attend a Packer game!)
We also eat yummy homemade Irish Soda Bread with jam and drink Irish breakfast tea to start the day. Somewhere during school we talk about St. Patrick and the symbolism of the shamrock, and then weather permitting, I send the kids outside to hunt for 4 leaf clover.
For dinner we'll have corned beef and cabbage with boiled red potatoes and carrots washed down with Guinness or Harp!
Nothing special, but fun!

Irish cream and ice cream
CCC St. Patrick's video
Lots of toe-tapping Irish music and whirling, dancing, happy children
Color pics of St. Patrick / usually we read Tomie DePaola's book the day before
Children like to put a few drops of green food dye in their sodas
Corn beef and cabbage
Green streamers
Last year we "kissed the Blarney Stone" we have some pretty funny pictures of holding the children upside down so they could do it proper-like
At night, the children listen to the Regina Martyrum "Torch of Fire"
The Rosary
We usually make cards a week before and send them out to good friends and family.

You might be interested in this It looks as though some bishops are moving the celebration of St. Patrick's day to March 14 and St. Joseph's day to March 15 because you can not have Masses for these feast days during holy week due to the solemnity of holy week.

Great ideas, Maddie and Lara! We'll be using many of these.
I also was thinking of having ds copy a portion of St. Patrick's prayer (with a green colored pencil  ) or perhaps printing it out in an Old English font and having him decorate it for his liturgical notebook. (Anyone else notice the irony of using a font called Old English for an Irish anything?  )
My favorite part is this:

This thread from last year had some nice ideas.
I found two threads that asked about Joyce Denham's St. Patrick book. I can finally answer that I just love it!.
I am glad the bishops are making a stand about keeping St. Patrick's celebrations about Holy Week. After all, he wouldn't want his life to overshadow the holiest week of the year, the heart of our Faith, for that is what he believed in. And I think the story of the Easter Fire from his life is so perfect to work in this year.
I found this treatment of St. Patrick and St. Joseph from this diocese very refreshing:

Official Notice: Feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph for 2008
The days of Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum are the highest ranking in our liturgical calendar. They take precedence over both the Feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph. In the dioceses of the United States, the Feast of St. Joseph will be transferred to Saturday, March 15, while the Feast of St. Patrick will be suppressed liturgically. Only dioceses or eparchies whose patron is St. Patrick may observe the feast as their solemnity on Friday, March 14. Those organizations which celebrate St. Joseph Tables would best hold the celebration during the week before Holy Week in order for Holy Week to be a sacred time of preparation leading to the Paschal Triduum. |

So now I'm wondering how many American dioceses have St. Patrick as a patron? How many are moving their feast? I know Boston, but I think that's it?
Does this mean that a church named after St. Patrick can't move the feast either?

Oh, and the Washington Post had this recipe for dark Irish soda bread with whole wheat flour. I thought it was a great recipe to keep along the lines of penance in Lent.

It appears the archdiocese of Atlanta has quite thecelebration planned. I don't like that St. Joseph gets upstaged but I guess he has another feast May 1. We went to the parade in Atlanta one year but it is a bit scary with a bunch of little ones.
