Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My girls need to study a revolution for history. The oldest studied the Russian Revolution last year and they have both studied the American Revolution, of course. :)

My knowledge about the French Revolution is embarrassingly limited to...I don't even want to say....so let's just say very limited . A friend mentioned a book he recently read about the roots and motivation of this revolution, specifically as it relates to the Catholic Church. I thought this might be a good one for the girls to study.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Resources/Literature?

Thanks!

Oh, Erica - I don't have much time, but do sit down and read through this fantastic thread on the French Revolution! You'll find some amazing book recommendations and reviews there! My dd (10th grade) is studying this rich period of history this year, and so enjoying the books we chose from this thread!

Of course, I highly recommend the French Revolution.                 Quelle surprise!

A GREAT reason to study it!!!!! An amazing opportunity for your older kids to "connect the dots" with many, many things and how they relate to the Church!

Understanding the French Revolution puts so much of modern history into context.

Thank you, Jen, for linking that thread, and, Lindsay, for that great quote.

I spent time reading through it last night and it is fantastic!

I especially will benefit from Angie's question about which books to read if trying to do this study in a few weeks. :) My girls will need to turn in a paper then, but I can see us continuing long beyond that deadline with this study.

Thank you!!

Oh, this is the reply I received from my friend and I thought I'd include it in case it's helpful or interesting to anyone. I won't have my girls read this after seeing all of the other books in the other thread, but this is what had me thinking about this revolution.

From my friend:
Read Demonic by Ann Coulter. Some terribly gory stuff and some adult language, but boy do you get a clear picture of the terror and vast lies of the French revolution!! The French revolution was IMHO worse than Fallujah. The national holiday, Bastille Day, was a mob massacre, which they celebrate! She makes a very detailed and effective contrast with the American Revolution showing that they were nothing alike. France, btw, is now on it's fifth republic.

Oh, and I'm sorry that I did not know of our dear Suzanne's French connections before this - how did I not know?!?

And, thank you, Erin, for sharing your plans for your daughter. They've given me the focus I needed.

I am continually blessed by this group!!
