I know it's expensive to produce full-color picture books, and I'd like to encourage with my patronage the publication of such books with distinctly Catholic treatments! (Unfortunately, I don't know many publishers who publish this kind of book.) What are your favorites?
I'm going to go ahead and nominate The Weight of a Mass and Angel in the Waters--two that I already have!

The Donkey's Dream is absolutely beautiful, and we love all the saints books written and illustrated by Tomie de Paola. Cay Gibson's Catholic Mosaic has a wonderful listing of picture books, most of which are Catholic in 'flavor.'

I love Cay's list! Her book is on my to-buy list this school year, as well as most or all of Tomie de Paola's saint books that we don't already have.
Perhaps I should have also said "overtly" Catholic. I wonder who would have touched The Weight of a Mass if the author didn't run her own publishing house--probably not Tommy Nelson, for example. I didn't want to leave out titles like Angel in the Waters, which despite its publisher is not markedly Catholic (I can imagine any pro-lifer enjoying it), or the dePaola saint stories, which have a lot of crossover, popular appeal, or The Donkey's Dream, which is on my hold list at the library! But I am looking for book suggestions that stand out not just as great books but as books that are uniquely Catholic.

This is going to be short list if you are looking for DISTINCTLY Catholic. There are many great saint picture books or other wholesome themes... but like you said, they have a wider audience base than just us on the Barque of Peter.

We have been enjoying the Questions for God series that I posted about in this thread. I think they are reasonably priced for the quality of the product but right now they only sell them as a set which might be prohibitive for some people. They are totally Catholic and printed in the US too!

My children have enjoyed some of the Precious Life Books published by New Hope Publications. I have read The Little Caterpillar that Finds Jesus: A Parable of the Eucharist numerous times.

We often read: A Peek Into My Church.
This is a nice, bright, colorful book. I'm sure many of you are familiar with it. We enjoy it , a fun way to talk about the church, the building, some traditional items in the church, community service, and family.
