Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just posted a prayer request for my brother-in-law, who fits the category of "special blessing". Would you mind reading it and giving me any ideas you may have for possible work for him? Thanks so much!

I am wracking my brain here. Doesn't the local Office of Handicapped Services have a job counselor there? That's where I would go, he may even be able to get some help with the salary issue, if there's discrimination involved.

Um, the first thing I would ask is, "What does he like to do?" Just because he is "slow", doesn't mean he needs to be doomed to a life of manual labour. Does he like to garden? Maybe he could find work in a nursery/greenhouse. Does he like animals? Maybe he could find work in a stable/farm/veterinary clinic. The possibilities really are quite varied.

If he likes his current job, he should pursue other work that involves driving a forklift, preferably with better advocacy from those who understand employee rights and/or with a better employer.

Praying for your brother...

Unfortunately, the problem with the current job isn't just the hours. The heavy lifting is simply killing his body, according to the doctor. So driving a forklift is no longer an option. I had thought about he nursery idea too. But he lives in the desert. I'm not sure they even have that sort of thing there. It's worth checking into though. Although, dh thinks an indoor job after all these years out in the unbelievable heat would be a huge relief. Thanks for your thoughts.
