Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just wanted to post a couple of things I have found or done.

This may seem obvious, but using stuffed animals to model various kinds of social behavior can be very useful. For example we trained Joseph in trick or treating by having his animals do it -- with *small* amounts of candy. The animals took both roles, and the trick or treater would visit several other animals. He even had a little pumpkin to store his goodies. With his big sisters, I used American Girl dolls in a smiliar way, but not as well as we had only two and that didn't give the same level of training.

I was all ready to buy a book on sequencing from Super Duper for about $20 when I found a $3 set of cards at Staples that will work better. Not only are they cheaper, but I can reuse the same 3-step sequence repeatedly. I am so happy! This is an area I really wanted to address without spending a fortune on Spec Ed materials.

In Christ,
Deborah

Hi!

I forgot to add that two series of nature books are very helpful for kids with limited language capability. One is the All About ... series by Cathryn P.Sill which has both accurate pictures and simple text that is not cutesy. Another is the easier Jim Arnosky's books like 25 Mammals Every Child Should Know. Right now I am using 25 Birds Every Child Should Know and All About Birds as the foundation of my ds's nature study. We also have a bird feeder and various supplementary books. But what I really want him to absorb is exactly the material in those two books. Later on he can learn more when his language skills have improved.

In Christ,
Deborah again
