I am working with my autistic son for his Webelo rank. I am having him draw pictures instead of telling people what various things -- like the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, etc. -- mean. RIght now we are working on the Pledge of Allegiance. For "I" I had him draw himself. For "pledge" he drew himself saying the Pledge (his idea). For "allegiance" (which I explained as being faithful and true), he drew St. Joseph! It took me -- conventional person that I can be -- to understand that St. Joseph *is* a good way for him to understand "allegiance."
