Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My almost 5yo DS appears to be on the autism spectrum (so I might ask about this on the special blessings forum too). He is language-delayed but still pretty verbal. He's known his alphabet and letter sounds for ages, and he has some ability to sound out consonant-vowel-consonant words, and to spell his own from sounding out and memory.

I wish we had more money because we're going to have to do a lot of trial-and-error to see what works for him as we begin officially homeschooling! It's going to be a different experience from working with his brother who does not have "special needs."

Here's an idea of where he is in terms of reading readiness: Without any serious attempt at direct instruction lately, he has indicated awareness that apple has an A, a P, and an L in it. Today my husband gave another example: he pointed to a motorcycle on his shirt, and said, "Motorcycle starts with M? It has a S in it? It has a L in it?"

So he has interest and some important ability here! Any ideas for a program that might work specifically for a kid like him?
