I know we all don't have the same path to walk but if you would like to read about my questions, prayers and struggles about being open to life, I posted at my blog.

I read your post several days ago, Helen, and found it very moving. I am always refreshed to hear your gentle logic - it is reassuring to me.
It would seem that the more we are called to love, the more we are called to suffer. And, the more we are given the opportunity to suffer, the more open we are to love.
I enjoyed your post very much and it has provided much thought for my prayer life.

Helen,
Your post has had special meaning to me today as I read it. As you said, we all are walking a different path and our family's path is to be miscarrying for the 3rd time in a row this week.
Dh and I have been "approached" by several well meaning friends at church who feel they need to tell us that we should stop trying to have children given the fact that we are suffering these losses. Or they are telling dh that he should "give her a break". Or the ever popular-don't you think maybe God is telling you something? We've been mulling over our responses to these remarks.
The first one that comes to mind for me is that yes, God IS telling me something. He is perhaps asking me to be willing to carry this cross in order to store up treasures in Heaven by creating souls made just for Heaven, not for Earth.
And Jennifer, your point about suffering is so very true. So many want to negate the value of suffering. Or they feel that it is pointless.
This reflection has really been timely for me and has reinforced what we were thinking. God's thoughts are not our thoughts.

That is a very beautifully worded sentiment Jennifer.

I'm so sorry for your loss Hollee. Some things are just very, very painful to bear. I think most people are well meaning in their remarks. They probably haven't experience that great desire for children those struggling with infertility feel. May the Lord reward you Hollee!

Helen - I really love your post. I really like what Jen said too - the more suffering the more love. You have given me much to think about. The comments we get are more to do with MY health - and whether I would survive another baby, and people make some negative comments - many do not understand the openness to life.

Wonderful, Helen...as a mom of three with special needs, (and a fourth with asthma and food allergies) it is a long road, but I figure I get a short cut to Heaven . After having another child with special needs last year, I almost got outright defensive if people started down the "oh...this is your second child with a trach?" and I started winding up...."You bet!! And look at HER, isn't she great!??!? What would our family be like without her!?!?!"
Thanks for the post!

Isn't that the truth! The real poverty is to be without these special people.

I think they would make a lovely couple....just make sure that Michael is as strong willed and opinionated as the rest of Lily's four older brothers....he'll fit in just fine!!
