Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Those of you with children with RAD (or attachment disorder)...
have you used the Nancy Thomas/Deborah Hage approach?
the Heather Forbes/Bryan Post approach?
How did either of these approaches work for your child?
Any other approaches that worked for your child that you would recommend?
Thank you!
Love,
Margaret

Hi Margaret, We are still using some of the Nancy Thomas stuff, but are now transitioning to more of a Katharine Leslie approach. It is basically emotional coaching. She wrote "When A Stranger Calls You Mom" and another book title that I can't remember. She has a website too.

We have seen therapists who trained under Nancy Thomas, with very good results. Right now we are in a "Therapist-free period" which is nice

I don't have much info. on the others. HTH

We have used Nancy Thomas' approach - specifically suggestions from her book When Love is Not Enough. I have to say we tried the book with the idea we would follow up w/ therapy and we never got to the therapy part. I couldn't believe how much her parenting techniques helped. I would happily see a therapist trained under her if necessary.
We also used the Parenting with Love and Logic books. I found them helpful in certain areas.

The psychiatrist that has been helping with med management of my 10 year old aspie daughter has recently suggested that she has some RAD behaviors. Because she was only 9 1/2 months old when I brought her home and I used all the Dr. Sears attatchment parenting it doesn't look like really bad RAD(if there is really bad and not so bad), but he coined a word "RAD ish" for some of the ways she acts. She doesn't always act very aspie either- 'passing' for normal most of the time. I'm not very up to speed on RAD as it dropped off the list of concerns years ago and I've been learning all about Autism and more recently math learning disabilities.

Do you have any suggestions as to where I should begin reading/researching?

Thanks, Cathy

Cathy - I started my search on the internet and found Nancy Thompson's website very helpful. I had NO idea what was going on with my daughter and upon finding the list of RAD "symptoms and behaviors" we realized it was EXACTLY what we are dealing with. Sorry but I am not aware of how to set up links, but if you google Nancy I am sure you will find the site - that is how I found her anyway.

Thanks Wendi
I will google Nancy Thompson next chance I get. RAD and ASD symptoms can overlap that's one reason why I didn't stay current on RAD when she looked more ASD.
