My youngest, Quinn, was born with Down syndrome. He's 6 going on 7 but mentally and physically, well, my 2 1/2 year old twin nephews far outdo him in the motor and language skills department.

Just yesterday, my father (his Daddy, Daddy) came to visit from out in the cold. Quinn grabbed his hands and told him his hands were cold...and then he told him that he needed gloves.

My heart melts at moments like these.

I share your feelings exactly! My five year old Christina is slow to speak as well, but no one gets to the heart of my emotions like she does. When I'm stressed, often she climbs into my lap, wordlessly looks into my eyes, and caresses my cheek. How could I NOT melt?!
I just met a mom, Robin Roach who collected 63 stories from moms of Down Syndrome children into a book which will be published shortly by Woodbine House. It's entitled, "Gifts; How Children with Down Syndrome Have Enriched Our Lives". I post about her on my blog Cause of Our Joy
I also shared in that post the book, "Defiant Birth;Women Who Resist Medical Eugenics" whose author, Melinda Tankard Reist, will be interviewed in the upcoming issue of "Faith and Family" magazine. My story of how God helped me through Christina's birth will be included as a sidebar to this article.
As moms of children with Down Syndrome, I believe we are called to share what blessings they are, to educate the public so that more of them will come to birth. Currently, over 90% of babies with Down Syndrome are aborted. We must tell expectant moms what they would be missing!
