We start Confirmation prep in Sept. I have my Confirmation plan in place and am trying to figure out how to do a notebook. My twins loved doing a notebook for their First Holy Communions last year - and my dd who had been in Catholic school for her FHC has wanted to do one since. I am just stuck for ideas on how to do a Confirmation one. My plans (which I have on my blog) include Catechism, Apologetics, Saints (special focus on chosen Saint) Church History and Virtues/Morality.
Has anyone got any ideas?
My sparse ideas are:
- study of chosen saint section
- narrations of books read
- copywork of memorized prayers/catechism
I am also a little stuck on Virtues/morality books - all the ones I have in my plan seem very old.

my son is not ready for this yet but i'm trying to look ahead. what do you think of doing jeff cavin's bible study as a 2 year prep for confirmation? we have enjoyed doing a FC notebook, but i'm thinking of doing something way different for confirmation.

Mary - I have this on my plan for Salvation History. (for some reason I cannot link to my blog - maybe I am still asleep!!) - my dh and I have done this and it is awesome - we have the old one Great Adventure Through the Bible (I think the new one is T3 or something)
I am just not sure how to do notebook stuff for it

so you are doing it as part of high school? hmm. do you think it's too adult for 7-8 grade? i wasn't thinking of doing a notebook if i used this bible study. do you think a notebook is a better prep than the bible study?

No - I am doing it for 7th and 8th - my dd is 11. I had bought the cds when my kids were doing Ancient History (RCHistory) a few years ago. I am thinking of the Notebook mainly because my daughter really wants to do one. Our FHC notebooks were part notebook part scrapbook

I know that Elizabeth had a great list at one time of books to read for Confirmation - over the course of two years. I'll see if I can find a link...

Marilyn, have you seen Elizabeth's Resource List for Confirmation Preparation? I've been staring at it for months now, in awe, wondering how to incorporate it into our Confirmation plans. Or more accurately, how to turn it into a Confirmation plan.
My parish expects the kids to attend CCD for 7th & 8th grade, but I have not heard great things for the last two years from homeschooled parents with kids in the program. DRE wants the homeschooled kids to be the "light" to the other kids, but they are so outnumbered and the other kids don't take any of it seriously. I really want to prepare our own plan, present it to our Administrator and DRE and make the case for preparing our daughter at home. Ideally, it would include something like E's Resource List, along with a rough outline for the notebook. DD's FHC notebook is beautiful, and could also serve to make my case. Sorry to get off track...
So really, Marilyn, I'm no help and I'm looking for the same think (I think) that you are. Does anyone have a list, sample table of contents type of list, for a Confirmation notebook?

In order to pull off that plan, I made Confirmation prep the "spine" for the year, everything centered around it and those resources. Michael did the whole thing. Christian was tailored way back but still did quite a bit. Patrick will be somewhere in the middle. Mary Beth likely will have more (by her own choosing because she began way in advance of when the boys did). My parish requires a notebook of all the candidates. The requirements aren't too many. We add to that. It's mostly narrations of the reading and an accounting of personal experiences with works of mercy. My pastor still has Christian's , so I can't share it. I'll see if Michael knows where his is.

I am taking all the morality books out of my plan.

Marilyn,
Michael and Christian were nearly fourteen when they were confirmed and Patrick will be fourteen. Mary Beth will be considerably younger. With the boys, the morality component and the books I chose were chosen with the idea that the next year could find them in a high school setting. With Mary Beth, we are focusing on Amy Wellborn's books, Peter Kreefts Catholic Christianity, and stories of the saints for right now. Morality is all a discussion topic so far.
