Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When you work with your children individually, do you have them come to you, or do you go to them? We still have some kinks in the logistics around here and this is something I'm wondering. I know, I know, aren't there far more important things to worry about?!

I go to them. No moving of books around the house that way. That's what works for us.

I usually bounce back and forth between them. I think it is less disruptive to their progress that way.

It's both regularly. I go to them when needed, and they often come to me when we have our weekly meetings.

Yes, this. Although I do eventually want to have weekly meetings with each one, like Jenn does!

It depends. If it is a planned meeting - I go to them. If they have a question in between times we meet then they come to me.

They come to me.

I have a schedule where that kids each get an hour of me, by age. I start with the youngest and move up. At the hour mark we switch and the next child comes.

In our school room we have a table and when I work with them one on one we sit at that table. When we do read alouds together we are in the living room.

They come to me for narrations; otherwise, I go to them.

The high-schooler comes to me, or we talk via email (he's out of the house three days a week). While the younger kids are working independently I come to them -- usually one will be at the study table, on in the kitchen -- to answer questions or check work. During that time I'm doing light housework and laundry, to keep me from hovering and to push them to be more independent, but I make sure I'm orbiting around them so that I can stop and work with one if need be. For our "basket" read-aloud time, they come to me, I guess -- we all grativate to the couch to read and narrate together.

Mostly, though, I find it easier to park them with their books and do the moving around myself.

Sally

Thanks everyone! I knew there was no right answer, although it seems like you mostly go to your children.
I had just decided to set up a station where I kept all my teacher books for them to come to me, except for read aloud times. I don't know if it will work or not. I just seem to have my teacher manuals in various places so I have to hunt them down when it's time to check math problems or figure out a Latin issue. This would keep me a little more organized that way.

The point about them dragging their books and things to me is a consideration though.

I guess we'll give it a try and see how it works out.

The teacher's manuals and all our resources being on a bookshelf behind our main table is exactly the reason why kids come to me.

Well we tried it this morning and it worked for the most part. I think, since I use a file system, anything that I need to correct is on loose paper so it wasn't an issue for them to bring their books. My ds who is learning to read did have to bring his reading books but that wasn't a big deal.

The only hitch was when my ds, whom I allowed to build a fort and do his independent work there, wanted me to come in his fort with him for our time together. That worked okay too, although it was a bit cramped for my taste.    Everyone else came to me though. We'll see if it works as well tomorrow.
