Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 25 month old had an evaluation with Early Start earlier in the week and it went well. They sent me the summary of the evaluation which shows that he has a 60% expressive speech delay (which doesn't surprise me), but also a 12% receptive speech delay which they say is in the normal range.

My question is, is it common to have a small receptive delay if there is an expressive delay? Is this something I should be worrying about at all? He's my only kid and I tend to get a little worked up about him sometimes.      Any advice would be appreciated.

It's very normal, particularly in boys. I wouldn't be too concerned. Will he be getting any therapy to help with the expressive delay? If so you'll be amazed to see how quickly it all improves. Work with the therapist and have them give you things to do with him that will increase his language. Usually matching games, singing, lots of reading and pointing and naming things.

You have just officially opened your homeschool. Congratulations!

Thanks for replying! Yes, he will be getting speech therapy. His IFSP is scheduled for this Friday, so I'll know more then. I think the plan is therapy once a week for an hour.
