Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son may be having these. He has a lot of sleep disturbances (night terrors, nightmares, insomnia, sleep walking), as well as periods of spacing out during the day. He is supposed to be scheduled for an eeg within the next couple of months.

I'm just looking for someone who has been there. What kind of side effects do the medications have? What are the alternatives to medicating?

Thanks in advance,
Jo

My son had these. Please get in for an eeg as quickly as you can. Every single person is different, and I don't know why your son is having these seizures. In my son, they indicated he was having a stroke, or several mini-strokes.

I wish I could help you...my daughter has an 80% chance of seizures, but so far there has been none. But, there are a few websites to check out. I don't have the one on hand but it has to do with epilepsy. Sometimes the chat rooms can really help to make some clear decisions or at least get mommy info.

God bless, and I hope your son's EEG comes out favorably. My daughter had too much movement so it was inconclusive. Sometimes children with her condition have underlying seizures that go undetected.

I will pray for you.

We got our appointment letter in the mail today. The appointment is for March 9.

He's not having grand mal seizures. If he is having seizures, these are very mild and last only a few seconds a piece. The concern is that they are affecting his sleep quality and that he has not been getting adequate sleep for, well, years. Not having enough sleep has in turn made it hard for him to remember things and just made learning in general very difficult.

He is prone to night terrors, nightmares, insomnia, and sleep walking which the neurologist feels are a result of the petit mal seizures. I think I may have seen him have them some during the day but as they are so brief, there is not way to tell for sure if he is or is not having them.

To be honest, I feel relieved about all of this. It just could be so worse. I've seen an adult have a grand mal seizure and I just can't imagine how awful it would feel to see my child experience that. This, the petit mal seizures, is really nothing like that.

Here is a video of what I'm talking about. (though that's not my child obviously.) I can't say for certain that this is what I see with my son, but it does remind me of his behaviour somewhat.

I'll keep all of you posted. Thanks so much for all the kind responses.

Jo
