Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

my six year old daughter (speech/language delayed, hypothyroid) can count to 12 and then gets mixed up (my son did the same thing) but when I show her a number from 3 on up she cannot remember the name of it and must go to the number line and start counting from one to figure out its name. also If I say "point to the five" she has to count all the way from the beginning.
she is a summer birthday so I already held her back by starting kinder at age six. I just don't understand why she cannot remember the names of the numbers. I really cannot go on much more into math until she can at least remember the number names until nine. also is there a song or something to hlep her remember how to count past 12? with my son we just practiced it and he eventually got it. She is struggling with reading obviously also. she knows about five or six of the phonogram sounds, can sing the abc song. but when I put the word "sam" in front of her she does s-a-m then she says sam but we can do the word 10 times and every time she msut do the s-a-m --- she cannot jsut look at it and go "sAM!"

Hi, Roxanne. I was just having this same reading/phonics thing with my ds who'll be 6 in April. I, too, was wondering why he could read or sound out "Sam" or "Dad" in one line and then go right below it and have to totally sound it out again. I pulled Elizabeth's book back out and read the part about how it helps to have some sight words before moving into phonics. I put the phonics away for about two weeks. We looked through ads from the Sun. newspaper and let my ds cut out those words he "knew" like Kroger, Walgreens, KIX, environmental print. We pasted them all onto construction paper and made a book of words he knows. This really boosted his self confidence.

Amazingly, his phonics and reading has really taken off. He is now able to read a word and a few lines later know that it still says, "Sam" without sounding it out again. We have lots of magnetic letters on the fridge and I've found him playing their quite often. I'm seeing that like potty training, they get it when they get it.

Hi, Roxanne! I remember meeting you! When did you move to San Antonio? Do you like it there? I like where we are now (Dallas area) but I still love Houston!
