Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've posted before about our youngest who is almost 4 and has almost no language. The medical types are/were leaning toward slight ASD or Global Dev. Delay.

We have stated seeing a new SLP who suspects he might have verbal dyspraxia. She said that she can't be 100% sure atm, but that is what she feels is happening for him. I was REALLY happy after seeing her as she have me hope! I've been feeling rather low for the last 6 months. As the poss. of ASD recedes, the clouds are lifting.(Although I'm aware that dyspraxia is a huge thing to deal with.)

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with it, and perhaps some wisdom to share?

I don't know a lot about dyspraxia, but I've been doing a ton of research on speech delays. This guy is amazing...

www.jamesmacdonald.org

He's a specialist/innovative researcher at OSU with a really neat program (communicating partners).

I've also been reading Sowell's The Einstein Syndrome. If any of these things sound like your ds, I'd be careful about having people label him:
late toilet training, understands everything but talks very little, seems to understand mathematical things, has at least one close relative who is in a math career, musicians in the family, left handed...These kids get mislabeled high functioning autistic or Pervasive Developmental Delay-Non specific.

Dr. Stephen Camarata is doing research on these kids at Vanderbilt. There are yahoo loops for Macdonald's ideas and also the Sowell book.

I've also read a lot about amazing results for children with speech difficulties who are given high quality fish oils...apparently its very important for the brain. There's a ton of info. on the web about this. The oils need to be pharmaceutical grade (because of mercury in the fish).

Finally, the organization NAATHAN (homeschoolers of children with disabilities...they have been around for a very long time) has home programs for speech therapy if you are interested in that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much Books. I'm looking into both the things you recommended.

Apraxia kids is a great website.

Nancy Kaufman does a lot of work with dyspraxia and is reputable.
