Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a foster child who has been diagnosed as blind. She can see light, but not much more. We are still investigating whether it is physiological or neurological but, in the interim, I am trying to stimulate as much development as I can.
I do lots of stroking and expose her to lots of touch from different textures. Music is very important to what I am doing and I place rattles and other textured toys in her hands. We also do lots of talking and swimming.
Is there anything else I should be doing. She is a very laid back child and, although very sociable, could easily sit in a corner and make no fuss. I have to be really systematic in my plan.

I don't have any ideas, but God bless you for all you do.

Christine, I am with KC......I have no idea......except what you are already doing, but will pray for you and this sweet baby.

Have you looked on google for websites? There have to be ideas somewhere online. I would maybe talk to a blind school....or other experts, asking what should be done to give her the best quality of life at thos early diagnosis.

I guess those are my ideas.

I think what are already doing is an excellent start.

When my mom adopted my blind brothers they were older so I don't really have any ideas for a baby.

I just saw this list of links to resources for hs'ing blind children.   Maybe something there will be helpful to you.

Thanks Ladies,
Your prayers will most especially be gratefully received. I will start searching google - hadn't thought of that.
