Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello.
A young mother at her wits end with the PS system has asked me how to homeschool. After some time in conversation, she revealed that her 11yod is bipolar, has accidents at school, reads at approx 1st grade level, cannot add and the school keeps passing her along and doesn't seem to be accomplishing much. She has a son who has been labeled "LD." He is "behind" in reading. This young mom (well, OK, she's probably 30, which is now what I consider young :)) also struggled in school. Can you guys recommend some resources for her? Technical teaching manuals are probably beyond her. I recommended Karen Adreola's A Charlotte Mason Companion. To give her hope and vision.
We live in a rural area and there is not a lot of hs support here. Although she will have more options as a Protestant than I. The family can probably not go to the store and buy lots of books and curriculum and manipulatives, etc. She doesn't have a computer, so she has only limited access to the internet.
Thanks for any insight you may have.
