Tomorrow, we are taking ds-14 for a full battery of neurological, developmental, educational, etc tests. You name it, he's going to get it. And he's not happy about it. It's been ten years since we tested and it's time I have a better sense of what this "difference" is. Please, please pray for him and for the evaluator. I so want this to be a positive turning point for all of us. Oh, and say a special prayer to bless my dad who is generously footing the bill.

From whom are you getting the tests? (if it's not a personal or privacy question). I mean through what agency? school, developmental psychologist etc. I will be praying.

She's an Ed.D in consultation with a PhD Licensed Clincial Therapist. The test list is extensive and it will be a very long day (though it might be broken into two).
Christian is not happy about spending the day with a stranger taking tests, but when I really listen to the complaining I hear "I just don't want anything to change." I think he's very afraid that this information is going to rock his world.
On the other hand, I'm having major self-doubt and second guessing. I was supposed to gather all standardized tests, etc. I have one form from Child Find when he was four saying there was nothing amiss (and there definitely was) and I have an Iowa from the first grade and I have a computerized reading test recommended by Sonlight last year. That's it. In this folder, he looks neglected. The truth is we've watched him like a hawk and believed he'd bloom in his own time but now I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner. And I guess I'm a little worried it's going to rock my world too.
I can't tell you how much your replies mean to me this morning .

Praying, Elizabeth. I know it's hard not to second-guess, but you're such a loving and devoted parent and teacher that there's just no way your precious son would be better off if you'd done something differently. Standardized tests won't show what kind of person he is, nor showcase all of his abilities and gifts.
Cyberhugs and prayers headed your way!

Praying for you both this morning.
I had my ds (he just turned 15 last week evaluated this past yr also.) He has has a tutor and she agrees with me that he is a late bloomer and he is just starting to roll with writing and grammar this year. My ds was just inside the norms an is very slow with motor output. He tested for 2 or 3 days. My ds has avoided academic work like the plague though for many years.Although, some of his late blooming could be do to lack of exposure to good literature and doing. Funny, though how I have seen his ability to speak and express himself improve over the past few years, also.
My ds was tired after the testing but it wasn't difficult and the "Dr" was a very pleasant woman. She told me they'll follow his cues. If he needed a break that he would get one and he could have a snack if needed, etc.
I am excited for you to finally have something concrete to ease your mind. I remember second guessing myself for so long

Prayers going out for you and Christian today Elizabeth.
No matter what the results of the testing, Christian is still the same wonderful boy you know and love with all of the same strengths he had before. All you'll be learning is how to strengthen any weaknesses that are there.
God bless you both!

I second quote these two posts. You ds is a wonderful human being created by God.
Yes, we do owe our dc necessary intervention for their future well-being, but you haven't neglected that obligation. You have been diligent and thoughtful about his future and well-being.
I really believe some people don't bloom until they're past 30 yrs old. I've seen it happen.
Prayers for you all.
