Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been thinking I could use a laminator. Can someone talk me into it or out of it. I was just sitting here thinking about two things I wanted to do and both required lamination. I was going to go see my friend who has one and I was looking to see how much it cost so I know how much I should offer her for letting me use her's and I was surprised that it wasn't too expensive. But, do I really need one? About once a year a need comes up, but if I had one I am sure it would get more use than that. But, I have gone this long without one. And if I do decide yes; what should I get??

Need? Probably not. But they can be handy. Check out this thread on laminating for some alternatives. Also, if you can wait, Office Max has free laminating sometimes, usually right at the beginning of the traditional school year. I think you have to join their Max Perks program, but it is free.

I did end up purchasing this Xyron a couple years ago (did NOT pay that price for it though). It comes in handy, but honestly I don't use it as much as I thought I would. It suits our needs though as we do not have a Kinkos or anything nearby and most of what we do is prayer cards, place mats, and bookmarks.

I'm the one that most recently purchased in the thread that Booksnbabes linked. Like she said, you don't NEED it, but wow, now that I have it I am finding all sorts of uses. I've gone through a 50 pack already.

It's a great motivator for my son, too. He tries to create things that are "worthy" of lamination.

Ooops, it's this thread that helped me on my laminator decision.

This is the laminator I ended up purchasing. It's on a great sale right now, little over $30 Scotch Thermal Laminator 15.5 Inches x 6.75 Inches x 3.75 Inches, 2 Roller System (TL901)

I bought Sparco 5 mil Clear Letter Sized Laminate Pouches 9'x11.5',50 count(01156) for our regular use.

My only complaint is that I would like to have to have the width a bit more, like a 10-11 x 14 pouch for my prayer cards. I haven't found something like that that aren't costly.

I use my laminator all the time. I laminate pictures I cut from calendars for picture study, flashcards for Right Start and Struggling Reader games, and anything else that will get lots of use. It is one of the best purchases I have made. I got a heavy duty one from Sam's for about $99 and I love it. No bubbles, no issues, it can laminate thick items and use wide pouches. I love it!

Sounds like I'm under-utilizing my laminator!

I thought I'd use my laminator all the time, but as the kids get older, you don't need it that often. BUT, I don't know what I'd do without it!

We have laminated all kinds of things. DD made a prayer book, reconcilation bookmarks, gift bookmarks. I have made math games, chore charts, etc. It is a very handy tool. I got my laminating pouches from ebay, really cheap, and I don't know how it compares, but I'm more than happy with the quality of them I just picked up a Scotch laminator from Wal-mart for $20. Does the trick :) I haven't had need for bigger than 8x11, so it works just fine for me. I think this one does up to 13 inches accross, but those pouches are more pricey.

I talked to Dh about it and he said he has a need for a laminator once in a while. I said we should get one and he said he has lived this long without one that maybe we can just keep making due without one. I said the price is reasonable and maybe would should just do it instead of always saying "I wish I had a laminator for this project!". I have a shopping trip to Target planned for this evening. I will check out to see what I can get local. Otherwise I will go with the one on Amazon that is linked above. Thanks everyone!

I totally didn't intend on getting a laminator because of cost but ... my dh needed to laminate something for work this week so I went over to Joann's Fabrics a few days ago (just to browse). Most of their paper crafting materials were 50% off; including this laminator. They have it listed for $49.99 regular price. I used my 15% teacher discount on top of the sale price I had a great time laminating yesterday

I am so tempted to run to Joann's now!

Me too!!!   Dh had to go to Kinko's last week and get maps (they were just 8 1/2 X 11 papers) laminated for his and 14yods's weekend hike/canoe trip for boy scouts, and OUCH! The price of laminating just a few sheets was ridiculous!

I definitely think a drive over to Joann's is now on my evening agenda! Thanks for the info!!!
