Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been fighting for over a year trying to get my ds speech therapy. The school division refused to help us because we homeschool. The professional community refused to help us because they said it was the school's responsibility, not theirs. I feel like I am now a lifelong member of the 'getting the run-around" club.

I have contacted our regional gov't rep. That letter got re-routed to the Minister of Education who, in essence, told me 'tough.' This was my problem, not his.

I have been so discouraged and frustrated in trying to get somebody to help us. Well, I think I have found someone who is willing. I received a phone call from a speech pathologist who works for the school division. Through the community grapevine, they had heard that there was a mom who was making a big fuss in trying to get speech help for her ds. They were going through their files in hopes of finding this family. After I told her our story, this girl said, "I think I have just found that mom."

We have an appt. for the beginning of March. I am praising God with a full heart tonight. Now I need to pray that this appt. will actually become a reality. I know that if the school officials find out about this, they will rescind the appt. I just need this girl to hear my ds talk and I am sure that she will help me fight.

I also contacted the school board to request a reading assessment as we are having problems in that area as well. The gentleman that I talked to told me that he would look into it and get back to me. I am quite famiiar with educational speak now. I know that what he was really saying was 'this is never going to happen." That's okay. God gave me this victory to encourage me tjo keep fighting.

Thanks for letting me share this huge news. We are doing the happy dance on the prairies tonight!

Oh, I'm so glad you are getting some obstacles removed from your path.     That is wonderful!

If you are near a college campus, sometimes you can get free services through classes where the young therapists are getting some classroom practice in their field.   Even if the session itself is not extremely valuable contacting the college campus may give you a way into the "network" so you can find other options.

Also, if you know what your daughter's issues are there is this linguisystems that provides SLP resources to the public. The resources are not cheap, but I've heard them recommended by parents with a lot of therapy experience.
