Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and am glad to have found a group of women doing the hard stuff. It's easy to feel like I'm the only one with difficult children.

I am hoping that some of you will have some opinions/advice/ been there done that for me. My friends with "normal" children just can't understand how pervasive the extras are with the oldest having D. Syndrome and the next having Asperger's. The "normal" kids unique needs barely make the radar screen without considering how the oldest will impact them.

Has anyone had the experience of sending some of your kids to school and what have been the plusses and minusses of the situation.

We are hoping to find a way to send my oldest who has Down Syndrome to a high school which seems to have a reasonable job training program.

I sometimes wonder if I should send another of my "normal" children to our Catholic School just to cut down on the workload. But then I would have two needing to be driven in opposite directions and then there would be homework and projects to interfere with family time...... Not to mention that Thanh is doing all the fun stuff......

I'm rather high energy and like to tackle difficult things but I'm feeling rather tired and hopelessly behind. It seems that all the kids need more one on one time than I am able to give.

Thanks for listening.

Peace, Cathy

Hi Cathy,

I know what feeling overworked and underorganized is all about - that's "normal" for me.

My oldest is the one we homeschool, specifically because the school was not meeting his needs. He has PDD-NOS (autism) and is seriously delayed in speech. He's only 10 so we aren't addressing work experience programs yet, and I'm pretty sure at this point that we won't be using the school for this either.

Our middle son is 7 and goes to the local school where my husband is a teacher. We don't have the transportation issue this year but we will next year. Our son will be going to school with his dad and coming home on the school bus. Is there a bus system that could provide transport for your children?

Frankly, I was hoping to bring our middle child home to school. He is SO much easier to teach than my oldest and could do a lot of the work himself. Also, he's a natural teacher and would probably be a big help in educating his brothers. Is there a way to have your other children be more self-taught?

Sorry, I guess that I don't have much to offer in terms of helpful advice. Just thought I'd let you know that I understand.
