Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the younger ones ... that would foster turn-taking, language skills, basic learning and yet be relatively stress-free?

My EB (5) played the Maisy Counting Game at speech today. His therapist said he did great with it. I'd like to find similar games to use with him at home and would love suggestions if anyone has some!

My littles love Cranium Cariboo. Now it comes with a "basic" and "advanced" set of cards to make it even more usable.

Dawn,
When Ryan was little his speech therapist used Good Night Moon Game. He really enjoyed it because he was so familar with the book.

We also used Memory, Connect Fourand Trouble

I remember playing those games endlessly. We also used a lot of Chutes and Ladders and Old Maid but he didn't like them as much.

Hope this helps.

Trouble has also been a big hit in our house. My kids also liked the Bingo games like Bug Bingo. Her website is here. Unfortunately it doesn't look like she has a "universe Bingo", unless I missed something...

My son's therapists have used Guess Who? (Sorry no link). It's relatively easy and it helps to learn to categorize. They also have him play Connect Four, and lots of games of memory.

Thank you so much for the advice, everyone! I am making a list right now.

We have a Cat in the Hat board game that involves color matching, letter matching, etc. It's really good. I don't know if it's available any longer.

When I was a substitute teacher, the special education teacher relied on UNO a great deal...again, color matching and some basic directions about dealing or matching cards.

Hi, Ho, Cherry-O! uses counting and turn-taking.

(Can you tell we love games at my house?)

It is often a big struggle for children to accept board game setbacks (like in Chutes and Ladders or Candyland, where you get sent back). Just working through those issues in a family setting is really, really good for children.
