Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Let's keep a list of national or international companies that give home-educators discounts for purchasing their products. I for one would not only like to save every dime I can , I'd also like to support companies who see home-educators as REAL educators!

  • Jo-ann Fabrics and Crafts -- gives a 10% discount to educators (you can show another's educator card to qualify)
  • Barnes & Noble -- gives 20% discount for educational purchases (excludes video/music)
  • Office Depot -- gives 5% discount on purchases, 10% on printing + money back on qualifying purchases (very easy to work with!)
  • Office Max -- gives points for "qualifying purchases" tracked through their "Teachers' Perks" card; no discount; currently running a laminating offer (till 9/13/07) which seems to be handled differently in each store....
  • AC Moore
  • Lakeshore Learning
  • Hancock Fabric
  • Half Price books gives 10% to teachers
  • Colonial Williamsburg -- Sept 17-21
  • Staples - Teacher's Reward Card with money back

Any others you know of?

Staples has a Teacher Reward program -- I don't know if they've made changes recently but a few years back I'd get about $120 each year total in the form of a reward certificate. I hardly get anything back now, but I still use my card everytime I shop there, just in case.

Wow! That is great about Williamsburg. We'd love to go, but our older child won't even quite be three that week. Does anyone know how Williamsburg decides that a family qualifies for this discount?

For that matter--how does any place decide that you qualify for discounts?

Susan

I just called --
I double-checked that they didn't need any "proof" and they said they do NOT need any.

I charged the tickets over the phone, they'll mail me a confirmation, and I'll pick them up when I get there.

As for the three year old, it's actually a perfect time to bring everyone, I think - it's such a small investment of money you don't have the pressure to "see and do it all"

when I last checked it was $15 a ticket. THAT is a huge savings! lol

It is a one time gig, I think but the Florida Marlins are having a Homeschool Night with Special Pricing for Homeschoolers:
Infield Box Seats: $25 (Reg. $40)
Bullpen Box Seats: $15 (Reg. $27)
Outfield Terrace Seats: $10 (Reg. $20)

Other info that I've received:

Florida Marlins' Homeschool Night & "Hitting a Home Run With
Homeschoolers" Pre-Game Parade

Celebrate Patriots Day with the Florida Marlins as they take on the
Washington Nationals!

Be part of the "Hitting a Home Run With Homeschoolers" pre-game
parade!*

When: Tuesday, September 11,

Perhaps other places are also doing this that night? It would be cool if it was nation wide!

Hastings has an "Educator Discount" and it includes homeschoolers. You need to bring in something to "prove" you homeschool such as your lesson plan book or a card showing you belong to some type of homeschool association or group.

Gosh, I know there are a bunch of others but I am drawing a blank. I will post them if I can remember.

Blessings,
Krisann

There used to be a Scholastic Books warehouse when I lived in California that would have an annual 50% off sale of ALL their books... a simple sign in sheet was all they required; homeschooling teachers allowed.

So check to see if there's a Scholastic warehouse near you?!

Also, you might want to note that Jo-ann's teacher discount is now 15% off everything (sale or regular) AND if you go in and get a new card (whether it's a renewal or brand new), you get 20% off your stuff that day (even if you've used a 40% off an item coupon, etc).

We really need to support these places that are really trying to help our budgets!

If you order online from Lakeshore Learning, is there a code to use to get a discount?

I just caught this . I'm in Canada and not sure nationally who gives discounts but here in our home province MB Toad Hall toys gives a discount for items used in the homeschool and McNally Robinson does as well too .
I do think you need to show your homeschooling card though to recieve the discount . This means registaring with the homeschool office .

I have the same "problem." I wonder if they changed how they give credit?

Perhaps I missed this somewhere, but how do you get the discount? Do you have to take in some sort of proof that you're home educators?

Different companies have different requirements. You just apply for a card one time and then that is what you use each time you make a purchase. For some - like JoAnn's - I just had to state that I was a home educator - no written proof. Those who require written proof often accept:

-HSDLA membership card
-letter from school district
or
-your letter of intent to homeschool
-certificate
-card/letter from local homeschool organization

Hi!

I just got a 10% discount from HOBBY LOBBY this weekend.

I was required to show my ID. I *just* got an ID from Homeschool Buyers Co-Op (You can print one at your own printer for free and then have it laminated or pay a small fee to have it "PVCed" and they sent me mine a matter of days) so that is another place to get a bit of savings.
