Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just called my local Michaels craft store and found out that homeschoolers were not allowed to get the teacher appreciation discount. Th manager said that I needed to have a teacher ID and that I would need to teach a wide variety of students at the school level.

I was wondering if the stores near you allow you to get the discount. I also wondered if homeschoolers can get teacher ID's.

Cheryl, I have never asked at Michaels, but I will definitely ask next time I'm there (I'm sure as we live in the same state, I'll get the same answer. ). I believe AC Moore includes homeschoolers in their teacher discount program, but I haven't checked personally.

When is the Teacher Appreciation Week?

I was wondering about Michael's since we had seen the flyer for Teacher Week. I'm very disappointed that they don't consider homeschoolers in that category, but actually not surprised. Though I shop there, there are numerous policies they have that annoy me. They rather dominate the craft market and not customer friendly it would seem in many instances.

So anyway, I'll likely give them another piece of my mind. Because there are many other places that do consider homeschoolers in the educator market.
Barnes and Noble
Borders
Jo Ann's Fabric
Hancock's Fabric
Office Depot
Lakeshore Learning

Cheryl, I wanted to let you know I just called my local Michaels and asked about the discount. At first the girl who answered said I could get it if I showed an NTA card but I explained that homeschoolers don't belong to national teacher's associations. I asked if it would be all right if I showed something that showed I had approval to homeschool (such as an HSLDA card or an approval letter) and she checked with a manager and came back with a "Yes."

I'll send you a PM with the exact store location in case you want to try again at your local branch.
