I so know how you would feel. But I do think you were being vigilant and as non-interventionist as possible and surely they would recognize that as a principled action rather than a neglect.
We balance that out often with Aidan's medical needs. Calling in a doctor puts a whole machine in motion. Great if he needs the machine. But it is a balancing-out thing -- the costs vs the benefits of the intervention. We have to weigh the minuses along with the pluses and make the decision. It's not easy but it is about responsible parenting. The balance just shifted for you and it didn't shift before, and since it didn't before and you know him better than everyone else and have those matrimonial graces, it seems evident that you were following a good path for Christian.
Looking forward to hearing the update, and praying, Elizabeth

We're praying! It might help to hold in your heart that you are gathering information to help Christian live the life God calls him to live. You gather information all the time, in many different ways, to help your children. You are good at this!
Praying for excellent information, reassurance, and peace.
Love,

I'm back. I'm utterly overwhelmed and I'm not sure how much I can share and still protect his privacy. I aslo have 75 pages of report to digest. I do need some guidance from y'all though. In particular, can you guide me to resources on the web that are supportive of parents educating children with severe learning disabilities? I really need to shift into a high-speed information gathering mode.
One little giggle: when I informed Christian of our Latin-Centered plans a few days ago he responded, "Dear Lord, just please deliver me from Latin. Please!" In this packet, on page 38, there is a paragraph that says that by law (the ADA), the foreign language requirement must be waived for this child.
When I got home, he begged to know everything. I'm not ready to talk to him about it, nor do I know how (ideas there?--do you tell a kid what he's up against?). But I did tell him there's no Latin in his future.

I can't offer any insight here, only prayers and support in this difficult decision making process. God will help lead the way. He's got an awesome mom, I know that for sure

Dear Elizabeth,
I just wanted you to know how much you've been on my heart today. We just returned from the orthopedist with our 3 year-old dd who has a broken leg from a trampoline. This happened on the 3rd day after we set up the trampoline . (Everyone please learn from our mistake - no one under 7 on the trampoline!!)
Anyway I'm offering all the anxiety, humility & sorrow up for you, your ds & your family.

Elizabeth, you are right where I was when Riley was diagnosed with PDD-NOS last fall. I immediately wanted (needed) to find all the support I could - both emotional and practical - for keeping him at home rather than putting him in school.
We came out of the meeting with a recommendation of 25 hours of structure (i.e. school) per week and my heart broken into smithereens. One day (and many online hours) later, I realized this was not the way it had to be. So many people choose to home educate their learning disabled children - and do so successfully! - but you just don't hear as much about them. These professionals meant well, I know that, but they also don't know homeschooling. Thank God there is the internet and google.
Off the top of my head:
Two Steps You Can Take (HSLDA)
Articles about Learning Disabilities (Homeschooling)
I will look back at what I found last fall. I know Riley is little compared to Christian, and their challenges (though similar) are their own, but I also know there is a path out there meant for them and it is we (their mothers and fathers) who are best equipped to help them on their way.
God Bless you and Christian and your whole family. I know you will all be working together on this. You have our support and prayers - and whatever else you need!!!

The only other place on the web I'm familiar with isNATHHAN for homeschooling special needs kids.
Praying you gain peace about it all!
Hopefully the report gives his strengths on each test as well as suggestions for therapeutic activities. I would share THOSE with him at some point, definitely.
And this is only anecdotal, but every time I've read something about adults with learning disabilities, they were always very relieved to learn there WAS a diagnosed problem. They weren't just "stupid" or "lazy" - they know had something more concrete to work with.
Praying for your family as you work it all out, Elizabeth.

Some of these are geared toward homeschooling kids who are both gifted and learning disabled, but their LD-related links are great.

Elizabeth, I will be praying for you and for Christian, especially during the next few weeks and months.
BTW, I am not exaggerating when I say that, for the past 24 hours, my children have been obsessing over the first chapter of Christian's novel. Agnes, my aspiring (and discerning) writer told me several times that it is "brilliant" and filled with adventure. I haven't had a chance to look at it myself yet, but she has narrated several parts to me with great enthusiasm. She also printed it out to read aloud to her sisters and requested that I listen to her read it aloud sometime this afternoon.

Ah, always a silver lining, huh?
