Have you looked at CHC's High School of Your Dreams looks at high school from the view that EVERYONE doesn't want to, need to or have to go to college. It's a way of tracking student interests and filling in the "boxes" so that your student gets a full high school education, but not necessarily only college prep.... |

Mary do you use this program? Do you like it? We're resarching what we want to do for high shcool. My oldest boy turns 13 this summer. I figured I would have the kids do MODG because it's (*gulp* please don't throw tomatoes) accredited. I would love a discussion, ~ maybe I should start a new thread? ~ comparing the two or discussing what you ~ meaning *all* of you who homeschool through high school ~ use for high school? |

I haven't yet, as my older two are pretty much school-at-home types and don't think well outside the box....my younger ones are being raised in this vein, so I'm thinking we'll probably use it for them -- about 6 or 7 years from now....I just really like the idea that she goes outside the box to suggest, for instance, other science courses than the biology, chemistry, physics cycle....she also has great ideas on different history focus or literature .... much of this you could probably do on your own, but this text gives you "permission" to go beyond the status quo to allow your kids to REALLY own their high school learning....suggesting volunteer or paid work experience that could be turned into high school course credit, for instance. I just really like the philosophy behind the program.

Quotes from Mother Teresa that make me think:
"Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus."
"Sweetest Lord, make me appreciative of the dignity of my high vocation, and its many responsibilities. Never permit me to disgrace it by giving way to coldness, unkindness, or impatience."
"There should be less talk; a preaching point is not a meeting point. What do you do then? Take a broom and clean someone's house. That says enough."

I just copied this in bold print for myself and my children. We ... *ahem* need to tackle our *own* house first.
Oh Cay, this just gave me major guilt pangs! Our vocation *is* truly to love our Lord. And there are ever so many means to that end. Ours, being mothers and wives, working in our own houses and with our own children, is so rewarding. We can't always see the reward in this life, but if we keep a positive attitude and ready and willing hands and hearts, we will attain that reward.
God bless,

The original threads from Coffee Mom are not to be found??? by me anyway.
