Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello All!

It's been a longish while and I wanted to pop by and update on you my 5yo DS with sleep troubles.

We tried everything we could think of and that you all suggested without success and I finally coughed up the money for a phone consultation with Mary Sheedy Kurcinka (author of Sleepless in America- which is an excellent book, btw). We chatted for about 15 minutes and she suggested that I have my DS evaluated for a sensory integration disorder.

Bingo.

So now we are working on a heavy sensory 'diet' and he is sleeping a solid 10 or 11 hours a night. Whew!

I'm unsure how this will play out in his education (he seems to be under-sensitive rather than over-sensitive so he doesn't have difficulty with any daily activities other than sleeping . . . well, that and not falling out of his chair during meals) and I'd be very interested to hear from other moms who have dealt with sensory integration issues.

Many thanks for your input and prayers a while back!

Edited to fix hyperlink

Sarah,
What great news!

I'm curious as to what you mean by the sensory "diet".

Also, for all those interested in the background (you might see something familiar there that could help you) -- Here's the link to Sarah's original post.
