Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please tell me I'm just in baby love and don't have the early stages of some terrible mental disease--today I put all the dirty laundry in the dryer and ran an empty washing machine.
I've double booked us three times in the last month, for really important things, like I accepted a dinner invitation during my baby shower!
How are the rest of you hanging on to your minds?

Crazy going fast,
Robynn

I ordered pizza yesterday and sent my husband to pick it up, he calle me to tell me that they didn't have our pizza. Come to find out I ordered it from the Papa Murphy's in the city of S. instead of S. Avenue, which we live just off of.      I forgot where I hid 2 of the 3 baby Jesus from our nativity sets. These are mild occurances, I've been guilty of some real doozies myself!

schedules.. duplicate duplicate duplicate.. I have a parish calender on my bulletin board.. right over my computer, right next to the phone.. if it's not there, don't expect me to remember it. But I also put everything into my cell phone calender so I can check it while away from home.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

And I haven't asked St. Anthony's help in finding it, either.....

In a library one day with a woman whom I just met planning a bridal shower, suddenly I could not find my new walker. I start to panic, ask my son where she is, he replys, "I don't know." She was nursing! And yes, I was the one nursing her. This has happened a few more times, once with her and a time with the one after her.

I think these things are just part of motherhood.

Thanks for the chuckle.

God bless,

Lost my mind? No... I'm convinced that one of my kids stole it... because a perfectly educated person like myself wouldn't simply misplace something so valuable!!

- mailed a Christmas present to myself instead of my Dad
- pantry items in fridge (not that I have room for them)
- lost several Christmas presents in "really good hiding places"

....and I could go on....
Right there with you!!

Oh Kristen! You brought back a memory of me doing something similar.

A few years back, Nicholas was in a class...Olivia, Nathan, and I were waiting in the hall with the other mommies. All of a sudden, I started to panic...tears & all...looking for Nathan. I had Olivia by the hand, running to check inside a classroom, when I realized Nathan was on my hip!!!       I was holding my child, running around like a mad woman, and he was in my arms the entire time.

You lose your mind with the placenta. Or you've got to turn it in in exchange for the final adoption paperwork. No one seems to be able to tell me when you get it back.

Oh Michaela and Kristen.. I'm always missing the child I'm holding count the kids.. one short.. count 'em again.. still short.. who's missing???? go down the list.. oldest, next, next, next.. hmm the baby.. oh.. I've got the baby in the sling

Though one of my favorites was when I had 5.. for some reason 5 just seemed like such a huge number.. that I'd count the kids.. and they'd all be there.. and a minute later there didn't seem to be enough kids.. so I'd count them again.. but they'd all be there

Maryan, I am laughing so hard right now!

I've also "lost" the child I was holding.

When my oldest was about two, I put him down for a nap, sat down on the couch and fell asleep watching tv. I woke up with a start, not remembering what had happened, and realized that my little guy wasn't around. I tore through the house yelling for him in a panic, not sure how I could lose him and fearing the worst. The second time I ran upstairs, I noticed his closed door, and it dawned on me. Somehow, he managed to sleep through his mother's crazy raid!

Okay who has gotten into their car and even started it and thought...wait...is this my car???

I have! How ridiculous!

We have one of those ever so popular 15 passenger white vans. And we don't usually lock it while running errands. The kids just run to it...we get in...and for some reason sometimes, my heart actually skips a beat and I think to myself...is this mine??? Where does that come from??? (Maybe I'm in some sort of denial )

As for the other times I've done crazy things...I always have to thank my guardian angel...only he keeps me from calling the police, running in fear or crying!!!!

I have done the 'frantically looking for the baby whos nursing' thing MANY times! I'm totally convinced that preggo-brain is not half as bad as lacto-brain!

ROTFL! After my fourth child, I actually got into someone else's car and glanced over at the next car only to find my own children looking at me in amazed bewilderment.
A friend of mine told me tonight (after I related my bumble to her) that after her fifth child she once went the the store ALONE, happily shpopping the aisles, turned to get something off the shelf, turn back to her cart and shriek in horror as she discovered that her baby was gone--someone had stolen the baby! She had to have a conversation with herself in the middle of the store to figure out if she had brought the baby with her in the first place.
Thanks, ladies, for all the great laughs!

Robynn,

HA! This is a topic close to my heart. I feel like I am constantly forgetting things. I forget why I go upstairs for example. I have also done the "where's the baby" panic only to discover she is nursing. Just this morning, I had a nightmare come true at the grocery store. I had just gotten back from a 16 hour long drive from Florida last night and was feeling every minute of it this morning. I went through the check-out and all groceries were almost bagged by the bagger only to discover, MY WALLET IS NOT IN MY PURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always worried about this happening, but it was actually occuring with a line of folks behind me. The lady said she could NOT just finish the order and let me pay at the desk in a few minutes, and that she would have to cancel the whole order, all $100+ dollars of it out. So, I left my bagged cart, went home to my husband who was sympathetically waiting on the porch for me, and then went BACK to the store, unbagged my groceries and put them on the conveyor belt and yes, paid with my now found $ in the wallet. (It was in the baby seat, OF COURSE! I think one of the kids was rummaging in the van earlier in the morning and my purse that I left in there due to the exhaustingly late hour, got turned over. Oh well. I survived the humiliation which was that much greater due to the fact that I am well known there!!! Not only due to my frequenting the store far too often, but also due to all the kids being well known for belonging to that "big family". "Oh great," I thought, "now the mom of the large family looks like a real dork." I got through it and I suppose there will be many more like it before all is said and done!!

Thankfully, St Anthony seems to have taken a special interest in my case and helps me out in dramatic ways!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband is even astounded by how quickly he intervenes on my behalf. I was married in his church, all the babies have been baptized there, so I figure I am on his "special needs" list. I think there are just SO many things we have to keep stored in our brains from what kids are allergic to, to what's in the washer, where the kids are physically, in school, spiritually, plus being a wife. I mean, I could write a page about what our job description is!!! So, it is no wonder that we feel like we are turning in circles sometimes!!!!

I always contend that children suck out our brain cells. And for those of us who were lacking to begin with, we're in real trouble.

I think Kim is so right that the average mom is expected to remember so many things between our husband's needs, our kids' individual needs, the family's needs as a whole, and sometimes even our own needs that our brains can only hold so much. We definitely deserve some slack for those times when we send a package to our parents and put their street address but our city, state, and zip code.

I can empathize even though I don't have a newborn because I just recently slipped up on something really, really important -- and I have no idea how much is excusable because of "impaired mental status" and how much is "my own grievous fault".    So thanks, this is a bit of therapy for me to hear that I'm not the only one.

Pizza sounds great actually, I wonder if I can convince my husband? there is only one pizza place locally
