I am in the market for a bread machine. I saw this one and it sounds great. I like that it has the option to make gluten-free breads. It works like a convection oven. I have never owned a bread machine, so I need HELP!

I use my bread machine everyday.... But it's not the same as the one you're looking at. So sorry I can't help you with that. As long as you are using it as it is intended, like not straining it trying to see if it can do more than it was designed for, I wouldn't see a problem with it.

I would imagine you could use any bread machine for gluten free breads and have the same results. Wouldn't the only difference be the ingredients?

I have the same bread machine and love it as well. It is a bit pricey, so shop around if you want it. I think we got ours on Amazon, but that was several years ago.

ETA: I meant I have the same one as Margaret.

I have never made jam or cake. I would like to try sometime, but never remember at the right time. I have made several of the white bread recipes and a couple of the whole wheat recipes. The one I do the most is the basic one pound whole wheat. Sometimes I go 50-50 with the wheat and white flour. I have also made pizza dough and cinnamon roll dough, and something else, but I don't remember what.

I once saw a website online that listed many other Zoj. recipes that weren't in the manual, but I haven't tried any of those.

My only complaint with this machine is that you can't adjust the kind of crust with the wheat cycle. In my opinion, the crust always leaves something to be desired.

We(in our family) have 2 Breadman, 1 West Bend, and one unknown brand. All but one bought brand new at Salvation Army for $5. I would check them out first. The one I use came from Salvo's and I use it at least once a day. We did buy this one for my son and dil for Christmas and they really like it.

I just ordered that one for my family. I read all the reviews. and most people have been very pleased with it. The truth is, I do make quite a bit of bread...but I don't need a machine that can grind the wheat and do a lot of other specialized things. I just want good bread My last machine was one I just picked off the shelf at Target, and it lasted 10 years and did fine.

If you're just starting out with a bread machine and are only going to use it 1/week, I would just get your basic, cheap kind. With a 20% coupon, you can get a Breadman at Bed, Bath and beyond for $60. I got my first one at Penney's for about $25, used it about 2/week, and it lasted for 4 years!!!! If you're committed to it and end up using it everyday, then invest in a better one.

We got a Cuisenart Cuisenart last year....mainly because it has a three year warranty, as we use ours about 4-6 times a week.

I'm pretty sure they all do gluten-free breads now.

We grind our own wheat and make 100% whole wheat bread every day in the Zojirushi. It is the creme-de-la-creme of bread machines. Ours has been chugging along just fine for 2 years now. That's a lot of work for a daily loaf. I sometimes make other loaves with variations, but we mainly make our daily bread with this machine.

One thing to keep in mind is that it is almost imperative to have a double paddle bread machine if you're going to bake often and use whole grains of any kind. They're just heavier and harder to get a righteous knead out of. Occasional baking will be fine in a single paddle machine, but I've heard of people burning out their motors with prolonged use. I've only heard that though - no direct experience so take it with a grain of salt.

Things I love about the Zoji:
* The shape of the loaf
* The size of the loaf
* The ability to customize the settings (the knead,rise, etc. time) which is essential if you're ever going to get a whole grain loaf to rise.
* The ability to just knead and rise a very large dough ball and then take it out and bake it in the oven
