Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I took my ds3 to the hospital tonight, b/c he's been bleeding from his penis, and had painful urinating. He said he hurt himself on his bike this afternoon. Doc pulled his foreskin back and we saw about 4 spots where there were "owies" - looks like missing skin. Doc cleaned it and applied erythromycin. Told me to do the same 3-4 times daily and take him back in in 2-3 days. When we got home ds was fussing and wanted me to put "Melagel" on it. (Tea tree oil ointment). Well, he wouldn't let me pull his foreskin back. He almost did but wouldn't let me finish. The poor little guy is in a lot of pain. He's refusing to go pee. (Right now he's sleeping and maybe he won't notice it while he sleeps- in a Pull-up). How am I going to clean and treat that area if he won't let me? I tried giving him a teddy bear to hold. He's my very strong-willed child, so that makes it extra hard....Anyone have this problem and dealt with it satisfactorily? Doc said it may end up resulting in a circumcision.
Help??

what about letting him soak in an epsom salt bath? that should be healing without being invasive.

maybe he'd be ok if he got to apply the cream?

you could maybe get at least two application while he's asleep? maybe 3.. once right after he's asleep once before you go to bed and once before he wakes?

A warm bath will ease his urination- Only partially fill the tub with nice warm water and have him sit in it. After he "goes" drain the tub give it a quick spritz with cleaner and run a"real bath". or just do a "mini" bath whenever he needs to pee.
A certain person that I may or may not be married to, who just might be a MD, but who would never, ever give medical advice online suggests (hypothetically speaking of course) that you put NOTHING on it that wasn't prescribed by the Doc.,even if it is herbal and usually safe. A "non stick" bandage- not gauze, the stuff that won't stick to the wound, could be slid into his undies to keep the ointment, and any ooze from getitng stuck on the fabric. Keep it as dry as you can. And that you might consider calling and asking for oral antibiotics if it doesn't appear better within 2 days.

The weekend went not too bad, thank you for asking! And thank you to everyone for your advice. I appreciate it. Saturday was torture, Sunday not bad at all, mind you, I did something differently.
I took him in last night, and doc said that he's looking just fine, one abrasion is still somewhat there, but it should heal fine. Yea!!!
I was hoping someone could fill me in....Doc said something about foreskin pulling back on its own over the head usually around the time they're 5 or so. Is that what happens? I'm totally clueless in regards to 'this stuff'. My ds6 soon-to-be-7 has had no such change. And, if there's anything to be aware of or watch out for, please let me know!

No one should ever retract the foreskin except for the boy himself (as he knows whether or not there is pain). It is adhered to the penis and will on it's own become unadhered (if that is a word ). This can happen as late as puberty (I think). So, no change in a 7yo is perfectly normal. There is nothing to watch for, it is just something to be left alone as it will take care of itself. Just make sure that NO ONE (that includes doctors) attempts to retract the foreskin, that is the most important thing as it can cause pain, infection and I think some other bad things.
