Has anyone rowed/lapbooked Angelo?

Haven't rowed or lapbooked it, but do love that book. Some ideas that came to mind are obviously to study pigeons. MacBeth has a Wild Monthy on pigeons that is very interesting and has some links and resources to use.
The study of cathedrals and architechure would be good rabbit trails off the book. I like David MacCauley's Cathedral DVD and book.
You could find some place where they are doing restorations to a building and take a field trip. Find out how restorations are done, what materials/equipment they use, etc. Also a chance to see how scaffolding is used.
Urban Roosts is a fun book about places that birds nest in the city structures. It could be followed by a scavenger hunt to find funny roosting places in the city. This is the time of year to find active roosts.
Eat pasta - use the cooked spaghetti noodles to spell words.
Katie in a different thread asked for ideas on including the Catholic faith when rowing FAIR books. This is a good book for that (in addition to being able to study cathedrals). In a post last year about Pentecost, Jenn included excerpts from Fr. Weiser's Holyday Book in which he talks about a tradition in 13th century France of releasing white pigeons from the cathedrals on Pentecost.

I hadn't planned on it, but after posting and thinking about it, we are going to join you in doing Angelo now too. Coincidentally, we went to a birding festival yesterday at a local backyard birding store. One of the things they did was a white pigeon (dove) release. They had about 70 birds that they let go. We were pretty close when they did the release and they flew right toward us and over - just a few feet above us. Pretty incredible feeling. So now the kids are very interested in finding out more about pigeons and their homing abilities.

Well, we rowed Angelo last month, but focused mainly on general studies of Rome and birds, and more in-depth studies of St. Francis, the Vatican and Pope John Paul II. We studied Roman architecture a couple of years ago.
One fun book the kids read was Rome Antics by David Macaulay.

Canon has some great 3D paper models and crafts here, including a pigeon.

Thanks for the ideas! I love the paper pigeon.
I am unsure what trail I will end up on as my library
isn't public (donations/memorial only) and has none  of the books that I had researched to accompany this.
So, I will either be very creative or shopping

You could also add the book, "Chico" to the list---about a pigeons/children etc. in Venice. Also, "Gay Neck" about a passenger pigeon during WWI (I think).
BTW what is "rowing"? I just got lapbooking down, now here's something new!

Check the archives over at FIAR--there used to be a link to this great website where a Mom had made a printable vocabulary exercise that you could use with the GeoSafari thing-a-ma-jig. (That would be the technical term!) I printed out the pages, taped them together so they matched up, and my kids still use these vocabulary words from Angelo. That's one of my favorite FIAR books.
The illustrations....of the pigeon in the sling!
But what a touching, beautiful story.
I'll see what else I can remember from our days w/ Angelo.

We love Macauley books, but I had never heard of Angelo before! Right now we are interested in learning about "urban wildlife" and of course pigeons fit right in with that! Off to check the library for books on pigeons (and apes, which middle ds has developed an intense affinity for! ).
