Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today is the Optional Memorial of St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, also known as Edith Stein. See also Patron Saints Index and Women for Faith and Family.

If you read the statement on the opening page:

Our purpose is to help parent educators to promote a new paradigm for home education which focuses upon developing the whole personality of the child--the heart, soul, and mind--to pursue a happy, wholehearted, academically excellent, spiritually complete childhood. We glean from the writings of Charlotte Mason with great joy and we also find ourselves discussing and learning from St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein), Pope John Paul II, Maria Montessori, and Saint John Bosco, among others. We are parents committed to Real Learning. We are passionate about learning in the context of real life. And we are in love with the Real Presence. We are joyously Catholic and sucking the marrow out of every category of knowledge with bounding enthusiasm but not necessarily within the confines of traditional classroom methods. We are all on a journey and we welcome you as a traveling companion. We don't profess to have a well-mapped-out road guide, though we do have lots of handy traveling tips. And we are certain of our ultimate destination. We're headed for heaven. We plan to take our whole families with us. Where we go on the way is all part of the adventure. Certainly, the journey can be an arduous one but we are committed to it being a joyful one.

you can see this is one of OUR special feast days on the 4RealBoard! Elizabeth incorporated some of Edith Stein's writings on education in her book, Real Learning.

Mare had a lovely quote on her blog Holy Delight that I really liked.

Anyone have favorite quotes, reading, doing anything special for this feast day?

Well, then, I'm glad I'm back from lightning-struck-computer-exile in time to celebrate. Thanks for pointing this out, Jenn!

Thanks, Jenn! St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross is my "new favorite" saint to read about.

Peace,

Mare

Thank you for the post, Jenn!

I passed on the quote from Mare's site to some other women and they all also appreciated it -- thanks to you too, Mare!
