Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello All,

I have only read Sr. Teresa Benedicta's writings through Elizabeth's writings so far but definitely want to read more.

What would you recommend to get started with? Is Essays on Woman the "Woman" quoted in Elizabeth's website, or should I start somewhere else?

Thanks very much and hope you are all having a lovely Sunday,

Caryn

Humph! No one ever answered Caryn! And, as I have not read anything yet.....I have no idea what to recommend.

In our poll for summer book reading.....a book by or about Edith Stein was the top choice.

I have no idea what there is............could everyone please list all of the books they are aware of.......Elizabeth? You must be well read on this topic...........your recommendations, please???

I THINK I MAY have something on my own shelf......let me go see........

oh, yes...I have An Edith Stein Daybook: To Live at the Hand of the Lord Translated by Susanne Batzdorff

It has a quote a day......for every day of the year.

Anyone else have something on their shelf?

On my shelf:

Edith Stein, A Biography: The Untold Story of the Philosopher and Mystic Who Lost Her Life in the Death Camps of Auschwitz by Waltraud Herbstrith, published by Ignatius. 195 pages. c. 1985 (Walraud is a Carmelite nun in Germany who has devoted her life to writing a full account of this modern martyr).

Edith Stein, Life In A Jewish Family: An Autobiography translation by Josephine Koeppel, OCD, Washington Province of Discalced Carmelites. 548 pages. c. 1986

The Ignatius book is an easier read and lends itself very well to a book discussion club.

Thanks, Chari and Victoria!

That gives me some good selections to start with, and I appreciate your suggestions. I will keep an eye open for anything anyone else adds, too.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend...

Caryn

I have the same book as Chari...just found it in a box. I also need to read Essays on Woman. That's the bulk of her educational philosophy, where Elizabeth got her quotes.

Institute of Carmelite Studies prints her writings. They have quite a list.

Need to get on my summer reading plan!
