Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dc and I are wanting to make a Miraculous Medal Mobile so as to hang their daily prayer intentions for people through the intercession of the Miraculous Medal(a visual reminder of a daily commitment - I think I need that! ). I would like something fairly solid (not going to break-up in a breeze)has anyone got some good ideas as to the material used or something quite different and creative - or photographs hidden away on their blog sites (I really enjoy looking at different families creations on them)or any suggestions that may be helpful?

I'd probably go with Sculpey clay.

What a great idea to make your prayer intentions visible as a reminder. We've done wall mural type reminders in the past, but I really like this idea.

I have more time to elaborate on the mobile ideas I had. Is this mobile for indoors or outdoors(you mentioned a breeze)? Depending on the location, different materials would be better than others, but I think all would be sturdy.

For the base of the mobile to hang things from you could use wires or crossed dowels like in these examples. Here are easy to follow instructions for crossed wires, using a coat hanger for the wire. Another option is to use a brass ring as the central point to attach dangling parts. Then there is the always available coat hanger base as used here. I like how it is covered with cotton to look like a cloud - that would be fitting for a Marian mobile. Another idea I had was to roll out a round, flat piece of Scupley clay. Then make small holes evenly spaced around the outer edge. After the clay is baked thread string or ribbon through the holes to attach dangling objects and some above in order to hang the mobile.

My personal preference for making the actual dangling Miraculous Medal would be Sculpey clay. Its a pretty durable medium. Model Magic could also be used but not if it was going to be outside. You could make an ornament similar to the Guadalupe ones Jenn made, except using a Miraculous Medal picture to decoupage onto it. It would be a beautiful central piece for a mobile. Or you could rubber stamp images of the Miraculous Medal into silver Sculpey ovals. This could be done before or after baking the clay. If you do it before baking it leaves the impression in the clay for a dimensional look and feel. Use a permanent, non-smear ink. Make holes in the ovals befoer baking and hang them from ribbons after baking. Those could dangle as the central parts of the mobile. You could get some inexpensive miraculous medals (just a few cents each) and those could be used to hang from a mobile (randomly or maybe in the spiral cascade similar to the heart one above).

To actually hang the intentions you could attach some kind of a clip to the end of dangling strings. I'm thinking miniature clothes pins(painted blue for Our LAdy) or colored paperclips. Then you could slip in and out different intentions each day very easily. The clips could be decorated by gluing Miraculous Medals to the tops. Or you could hang minature baskets from the mobile as a place to put the prayer intentions.

Another idea that came to mind is to tie small craft bells or jingle bells from the mobile as well. You talked about having a visual reminder, but that would be a auditory reminder as well whenever the mobile moves. The bells call to mind the Angelus - so have a Marian connection.

Other adornments that could be hung from a mobile are silk flowers with a Marian meaning.

This is rather disjointed as I am rambling when I think of things to add. I have several visualizations in my head, but none to offer on the net. Hope it helps though. I think we are going to run with your idea, Anne, and do something similar. Since this is the 175th anniversary year of the Miraculous Medal I had been "planning" to do things that would be reminders of that - this will fit in nicely.

Today I though of another approach. YOu could make a grotto similar to the ones from Illuminated Ink but substitute a picture of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal inside the grotto. The clips to hold prayer intentions could then be attached to the bottom of the grotto. Or the grotto could be mounted to a board and the clips attached to that.
