Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

He had a devotion (that word seems lacking?) to Blessed Mother Mary. I would think anything Marian would be a great idea.

(Our little guy is Maximilian )

The National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe's catalogue:

Marytown

The righthand links for the following look promising:
Posters;
Statues, Sculptures & Icons;
Medal,etc.;
St. Maximilian Kolbe MI

Our favorite book on St. Maximilian Kolbe is "St. Maximilian Kolbe, The Story of the Two Crowns", by Claire Jordan Mohan. The publisher is Young Sparrow Press.

We have a comic book about him put out by the Daughters of St. Paul (Pauline Comics) that my 7yo boy likes.

He was noted for handing our Miraculous Medals. I believe he called them Mary's silver bullets.

If you can get a medal (both my local Catholic supply stores have Max Kolbe medals in the 50 cent bins) Loyola press has instructions for making a clip to go on a backpack-   it doesnt require any difficult beading.
Saint Clip Activity
Using those instructions, I would substitute bright plastic pony beads and use a bigger clasp, so that it could go on a bike.
Another idea- find a holy card and photocopy it, several times. Use the copies to decoupage a wooden box. In the box put a rosary, or a prayer book, or whatever really.
let us know what you find.

Molly, Are you looking for ideas that you can make or buy locally since you are under a time crunch?

The miraculous medal is a typical gift for First Communicants. I think for a boy I might give a 4Way Medal on a sturdy chain, but since his patron is Maximilian Kolbe the Miraculous Medal would just be perfect.

I also confess I keep thinking of striped pajamas and embroidering the numbers on the pocket. But I think that would be for All Saints Day.

He has 50 medals, that he is asking the Bishop to bless, which he plans on handing out. We are already enthroned in the Miraculous Medal, so he does not need one of those.

Jenn, I,too, keeping thinking along the pj line....LOL!

I do like the idea of something unique, perhaps homemade as we have so much "store bought catholic stuff", if that makes sense

I am grateful for all the links and ideas, please keep them coming. What else do you have in your ideas Jenn?

If he's passing out medals, and going to keep on this "ministry" how about a shrine/case to hold medals? Woodworking for your boys and some lovely sewn cases or bags the girls could make?

I actually came across an old activity/coloring book that has images of the Miraculous Medal, whole page, front and back. I can scan them for you to use maybe? You could shrink the image and decoupage or something? Or use it for a card...

Just let me know. My afternoon was just cleared, so I have some time to scan it for you.

The two crowns are also a strong image in his life. How about a small shrine with Our Lady, and two votive candle holders with a crown on each?

I would appreciate the scanning, if you can manage it.

I've uploaded them here. I left them as .jpegs so you could fool around with them, but I can make them into .pdf if you would prefer a coloring page. Just let me know.

Calling the link fairy!!http://www.prayerbook.com/Chaplets/smkchapl.htm
This has a printable page of how you pray the chaplet as well as a description for assembling one.
Ebay has quite a few MK chaplets for sale, I saw a black one for $12.
Good luck, McChatty

Molly,

St. Maximilian is a huge saint in our house. He is my DH's confirmation saint as well as the topic of his senior thesis. That being said he had an idea of what he will give our son Max on his confirmation day. We will make him a prisoner bracelet. It is a black cord with a miraculous medal on it and 5 number beads 16670. These are St. Maximilian's prisoner # (a number that we use in this family in code when someone needs to make a sacrifice) This is a very real way to remember St. Max's sacrifice.

Just an idea

God Bless you in your search

Thanks for initiating this conversation Molly! I am going to print out the ideas and file them in my name day celebration folder for special days in my own little Kolbe's life!
