Not sure what to do, but want some kind of celebration.

Here in the UK Laetare Sunday is Mother's Day, which kind of makes it easy

It is like Gaudete Sunday in Advent. A peek ahead to the coming light. That's why there will be Rose vestments at Mass this Sunday.

Not a dumb question at all, Jody!!! And welcome to the boards!!!
From Father Hardon's dictionary:

The day is referred to also as Mediana, Mid-Lent, Mi-Carême, Mothering, Rose, or Refreshment Sunday. |

It's not a dumb question. These days it isn't often referred to as Laetare Sunday in many parishes (in US) so you wouldn't necessarily have heard it.
Laetare Sunday is the 4th Sunday in Lent. Sort of like Guadette Sunday (3rd Sunday in Advent) it reminds us of the joyful event we are awaiting at the end of the penitential season. It's name comes from the first words of the Introit at Mass, "Laetare Jerusalem" -- "Rejoice, O Jerusalem".

It's Mothering SUnday for us. Dh will be at work, but I and the children will be with my parents after Mass for a family party.

Jenn, of course, I was so confused about this last year since I saw that the celebration of Mother's Day was not what we had in the States (although Father's Day is still the same day). And I bet you were looking at Cooking for Christ to find out this information, right?
As far as I can tell, it is Mother's Day here and I fully expect to spend the day without a moment in the kitchen! I am not requiring my children to make me a Simnel cake although I do believe that I will share that information with them.
I am curious to hear what Kathryn has to say on this. It seems to me that the culture over here has lost the significance of the liturgical year and just celebrates a day for moms.

Is it also called Rose Sunday or is that during Advent?
Think I will get some fresh flowers for the table and let the kids pick out a dessert to make. Not sure what else....
