Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, maybe hate is a really strong word, but we always have tears, fussing, whining when he has to go- his not mine
The class is not awful, he just doesn't want to go. Most, if not all, of what they are teaching he already gets at home and in Mass. He's due to receive FHC in May so we'll really only have to endure until then but that's almost 2 whole months away! Not sure what I'm asking, maybe just venting... but does anyone have advice?? Sympathy?

Thanks in advance! And if I didn't place this under the right topic, please move it

I think all classroom stuff is torture for 7 yr old boys. Its sitting in a class, often right after having to sit in mass an hour (also can be torture on little boys), or in one parish we once belonged to, they did ccd at 6:30 pm on a weeknight! Just what little kids need...to be out till 8pm on a schoolnight??? I don't know what they were thinking...

If its after Mass, I'd try to find a patch of grass for him to run around for a few minutes before ccd, and then just be sympathetic with him that you know its not always fun, but it makes Jesus happy when we prepare for FHC, and summer will be here soon enough. Maybe have a donut for him afterward??? Whatever it takes to get him through the last 2 months...

Thanks Books,
I almost wish it was after Mass but his class is in the evening- this evening in fact, thus my whiny post

Getting out of the house right at our usual dinner time is always an issue but maybe with a little planning on my part we could do a simple picnic with PBJ's and chips out on the lawn at church prior to class... maybe even at a near-by playground. I love the idea of telling him that Jesus will be happy! I've just been so frustrated and waiting to "take care" of the problem when it arose (or not) instead of pre-planning to avoid it.

I already feel better about next week!

I hear you! Mine is also in CCD bc of 1st Holy Communion. Its a fairly reasonable prep. In fact its mostly done at home, funny enough (I asked her to do it at home and was told I must enroll in CCD so I find it hilarious that the DRE then went on to emphasize that most of the prep is done at home. With materials which are less engaging that what I would have used, as far as I see it.)

Anyway I just tell mine that he doesnt have to go next year if he doesnt want to but this year he must. And I heartily empathize wrt the whining. sigh. Its a shame.

My older ds chooses to attend CCD. He likes seeing his friends from football there.
