Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Are there still Catholic Missionaries - not that just go on "mission trips" - but that actually live and work in the communities? I don't mean Religious, I mean lay people. I am talking with so many protestant missionaries recently, and they live and help people in many South American countries -their entire family has moved there for that purpose - but countries that are traditionally Catholic, but now have many Protestant Missionaries there. Are there Catholic ones there too that I am not hearing about?

Everything I have heard about from a Catholic perspective is short (weeks or a few months) mission trips that parishes will do, or it is only Priests/Brothers/Nuns in an area.

Do Catholic families go and do missionary work like many of the other Christian groups? Where would I find info about that?

TIA!

We knew a family that did missionary work with SOLT for over a year before deciding it wasn't their vocation.

The dd of a friend of mine spent a year in Bolivia working with the Salesians. They have a lay missionary organization.

Laura--Our fmaily spent three years as missionaries with Family MIssions Company. At their web site you can see the lay missionaries and read their blogs. We are still very connected to mission and would like to return as often as possible on short term trips and longer when God calls.
WE lived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for a year and a half and Costa Rica for 8 months.
